_Trainwreck_ is an exemplary morality fairy tale, an inspiration to whores and bad grrls, in her R.E.A.L.women view.

Thank gawd for professional slut-shamer Kay, and all the women who share her sour, tight-sphinctered and pearl-clutching ideological constructs.

Common, every-day patriarchy as well as its bastions: the Vatican Taliban, Hasidic extremism, Saudi Wahhabism to name but a few, would crumble without its handmaidens.

The *happily ever after* is such a predictable Hollywood cliché ending — even when hipsters produce such movies — that I saw it coming a mile away.

What offended me about _Trainwreck_ was its crass, opportunistic and shallow execution. The script is a contrived series of sketches that might have been dynamite on their own, were they sharpened up and NOT riddled with hackneyed plot devices.


The only thing that distinguishes _Trainwreck_ from any bland TV sitcom episode?  The brilliant performances of Tilda Swinton, LeBron James and John Cena.

That was the MASSIVE sound produced, one might call it a "dis-sonic boom", as R.E.A.L.women's home-schooled fundamentalist christian homophobia collides with the Harper government's Foreign Affairs Minister's efforts to counter homophobia in foreign countries.

Real Women of Canada, a privately funded socially conservative group, says Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is imposing his own views on Uganda, Kenya and Russia when he criticizes those countries for passing legislation targeting homosexuals.

The group, which describes itself as a "pro-family conservative women's movement," issued a press release Wednesday decrying what it called Baird's "abuse of office" and his awarding of a $200,000 grant to "special interest groups" in Uganda and Kenya "to further his own perspective on homosexuality."

Real Women also lambasted Baird for admitting he worked extensively behind the scenes to persuade Russia not to pass laws restricting foreign adoption of Russian children by gay couples and cracking down on gay rights activism to control the spread of "homosexual propaganda."

Finally, the press release states, "Mr. Baird's actions are destructive to the conservative base in Canada and causing collateral damage to his party."

They helped pick the Jubilee medal winners, one - a jailed criminal.

Which leads me to think that the unofficial Harper policy towards women which Sen. Nancy Ruth called "friendly advice" - when she addressed it to feminist organizations - will be swiftly and brutally executed.

“It really is offensive,” Landolt said Wednesday. “The issue is really why is he interfering in a sovereign country’s legislation? He really has no business to do that.”

The same news release also says that “homosexual activists” have become a “tyrannical minority.”

Naomi Lakritz: lies galore.

In a piece titled "An Inconvenient Truth" (stolen from this documentary), anti-choice and anti-feminist Lakritz regurgitates the dog-eared lies that fetus fetishists habitually spew about abortion.

Lakritz uses these fabrications to spin her attack on Dr Henry Morgentaler.

When the University of Western Ontario in London awarded him an honorary doctorate eight years ago, he said: “Well-loved children grow into adults who do not build concentration camps, do not rape and do not murder.”

Interesting, how he only acknowledged the humanity of these unborn babies when he predicted their future criminality; otherwise, they were just non-human blobs to be obliterated.

Lakritz claims to locate "gaping holes" in Morgentaler's observation; instead she digs herself deeper and deeper into an irrational and illogical bear-pit of MASSIVE zygote zealotry.

This approach is interestingly enough, echoed in her shrieeeky defense of Israel's apartheid policies and practices where Lakritz denounces Hamas for its decision to segregate a marathon event on the basis of gender.  

This is a deplorable consequence of patriarchal religious ideology — which occurs in many Islamist countries, as well as in Israel, and Central/South America where Catholicism rules many governments.

"An inconvenient truth" about Israel that I've never heard Lakritz denounce is this one.

Bad Sex Lit Award

The official list is out.

Yet Barbara Kay is not one of the *winners*.

It's a shame, really. She should receive a life-long achievement award for bad sex writing in non-fiction.

Her arid, hectoring, astringent prose - which projects her deeply gynophobic fear and loathing of juicy, passionate, joyful women and the men who love them that way - is the very opposite of sex.

Rarely have I read such unbalanced and scolding screeds. Though misery loves company, I can't even imagine men who are drawn to Babs' particular brand of verbal abuse.

On the other hand, if one were contemplating entering a convent or a monastery, her turgid little pieces would certainly make life-long chastity and sexual abstinence appealing.

Degrees of anti-semitism

It would seem that using fear and hate, to influence people and to rally their support is gaining ground in surprising ways.

For example Steven Weiss, a reporter for The Jewish Channel drew attention to a US campaign created and disseminated by the Israeli Ministry of Immigrant Absorption which has been warning Israelis against befriending or marrying American Jews. One of the short television ads which was withdrawn after American journalists and bloggers brought attention to it, shows a young woman living with a man who might be Jewish-American. The guy doesn’t understand why his Israeli girlfriend is sad. From here:

“They will always remain Israelis,” the announcer says in Hebrew. “Their partners may not understand what they’re talking about.” After receiving tips from viewers across the U.S., Weiss collected together several of these ads last month, announcing that “a concerted effort is targeting Israeli expatriates in at least five cities to convince them that their heritage will be lost if they don’t soon leave America to go back to Israel.”

The campaign [...] uses every technique imaginable to make Israelis feel that their identity is in danger. One billboard urges people to leave America before their children start calling them “daddy” instead of addressing them in Hebrew. In another TV commercial, an Israeli couple is appalled to discover that their American-raised granddaughter thinks that she’s supposed to celebrate Christmas. The message is clear: Jews born and raised in America might just as well be goyim.

And thus, the enemy.

This *fear-and-loathing* mindset would explain why, according to BCL, a group of islamophobic anti-feminist pseudo-christians are gleefully anticipating a violent confrontation at the December 6th Memorial events held at the University of Toronto. DrDawg continues the analysis here.

The Jewish Defense League exploits the massacre of 14 women at La Polytechnique for their own purpose: to attack the Toronto and District School Board for allegedly "allowing radical Islam" into their schools or at least, that is the JDL fear and hate-mongering claim.

4. Women and education: Discourage women in general to strive for full time careers. This will involve certain sexist and discriminating policies but should increase the fertility rate by up to 0,1-0,2 points.

Women should not be encouraged by society/media to take anything above a bachelor's degree but should not be prevented from taking a master or PhD. Males on the other hand should obviously continue to be encouraged to take higher education - bachelor, master and PhD.

It's all about fertility, ladies, and if only we keep you ignorant and trapped in the home, you'll start pooping out babies for us. Isn't that sweet?

Presumably these policies would NOT apply to the dusky women, just the 'preferred' women.

I doubt that exemption would bode anything good though.

The enumeration of women's organizations that have been recently maimed or mutilated as a result of capricious funding policy changes reads like a reactionary, anti-feminist, rightwing neo-con hit list. It includes Match International, a venerable organization founded in 1975 which has learned CIDA funding to its programs has been cut off.

What's next? Will Harper and his acolytes invoke 'emergency' measures against any perceived insurrection, direct the RCMP to round us up and to march us to internment camps? Or will Stevie use his 'discretionary' executive power with bureaucrats to screw up the lives of individuals that his goons have identified as community leaders who oppose his imperious and increasingly dangerous control of our Parliamentary institutions?

ShriEEEkkk!!!! Woman pleads guilty to shooting husband - no jail sentence.

Amber Cummings was not given an absolute discharge. Or handed a nine-month conditional sentence with no jail time after pleading guilty to sexual assault. But then, her crime was different.

On the morning of Dec. 9, 2008, she took a Colt .45-caliber revolver, walked into her husband's bedroom and fired two bullets into his head while he slept, then fled with her daughter to a neighbor's home and called police.

The facts presented at trial before Superior Court Justice Jeffrey Hjelm were not disputed. Cummings pleaded not guilty and her defense lawyer Eric Morse argued for her acquittal.

Last week, Morse and prosecutors came to a plea agreement, calling for a sentence of up to eight years with Cummings to serve no more than a year in jail, followed by six years of probation. In his sentencing memo to Hjelm, Morse recommended that Amber Cummings serve no jail time.

Assistant Attorney General Leane Zania recommended that Cummings spend a year behind bars. Although Cummings was clearly abused by her husband, a message must be sent that "this kind of 'self-help' is severely anti-social behavior and that it will be punished accordingly," Zania wrote.

Amber Cummings didn't address the court, but three mental health experts who evaluated her urged Hjelm not to send her to jail.

In handing down the sentence, Hjelm said he looked at the case in its entirety and the reasons behind the shooting — not just the few seconds of the shooting itself.

As you can well imagine, there are a number of rightwing gynophobes who are enraged at this outcome. They may launch a collective legal appeal to overturn the decision, if the rantings of someone like this guy are indicative of the fury, the fear and the loathing.

Judge Hjelm established the legal precedent that any woman based on her own internal and unverifiable thoughts and feelings has the right to murder any man and suffer no legal consequences. In short, women and women alone have the right to be judge, jury, and executioner.

[...] What is most critically at issue, however, is whether justice for the crime of murder is to be determined by feminist jurisprudence (the Battered-Woman Defense) or by behavior. In this case the behavior was a woman firing two bullets into the head of a sleeping man. To fully understand the double standards inherent in feminist jurisprudence one simply has to reverse the genders. Would any judge ruling in a case where a man fired two bullets into the head of a sleeping woman free the man with no criminal penalties?

I don't know if Judge Hjelm is married but if he is and were his wife to fire two bullets into his head while he slept, it would be ironic justice for his wife to be freed by the subsequent Judge on her case on the basis of her husband's own ruling.

More importantly, this case establishes a precedent that all men and all women who love men and want a man in their lives should oppose and seek to overturn. Were the core principle established by Judge Hjelm to be retained, we would be a society living under the rule of gender rather than a society living under the rule of law.

According to "Docter" Finley, Hjelm's judgement sends a message to all the wimminz that Husband Hunting season is now open and not in that funny Sadie Hawkins way either.

It would be helpful to know which person SHE refers to - the accused - or the deceased?

When you believe in the right to life, you have to defend the lives of ALL. The pro-lifer is often on the side of the despised and unrespected. That's what makes our jobs so hard. But people will want to kill those who are unpopular. But the right to life is an important concept. We've made it so abstract to the point of meaningless. Hey-- it was okay to shoot that Nazi-loving pedophile, he had it coming! The problem is that it opens up a can worms. What other despised individuals will be allowed to be killed?I'm saying there shouldn't be ANY leniency in this case-- clearly the woman was working from desperation. But no jail time? What message does that send to the world? If the victim is morally repugnant enough, you can kill him with impunity.

The defendant was charged with a crime. There was a trial. Facts and evidence were presented by the prosecution and the defense attorneys. The judge accepted the argument of self-defense - the core of the Battered Wife Syndrome - and ruled.

Amber Cummings defended her life and her daughter's life. She pleaded guilty. The judge determined a sentence appropriate to the circumstances.

The person greeting Amber Cummings with a big hug as she leaves the courtroom is Rev. Ken Parker of the First Baptist Church, the pastor of the church she attends. No wonder Blob Blogging Wingnut is shrieeeking.

US States that allow same-sex marriages have lower divorce rates.

(anti-feminist) women to the effect that heterosexual marriages are under attack!

Why does Jonathan Kay hate Olympic-hopeful female athletes?

From Dr Dawg, we learn that Kay may have experienced some form of intellectural melt-down, standing on his hind legs and baying at B'nai Brith.

Full disclosure: we at DAMMIT JANET! find the writing of Kay mère and Kay son to be dedicated to the unimaginative and humourless re-hashing of their pet peeves. In their haste to attack anything and everything which remotely suggests feminism, they have respectively parroted the most inane clichés.

But Kay's lashing out at B'nai Brith is perplexing. Perhaps there's something so Aryan, so Germanic about female ski athletes that it triggered a MASSIVE head-on crash between two conflicting beliefs he held. He and his mother did not contribute to coffers and war chests that should be only dedicated to the campaign to fight anti-semitism, in order to see these resources squandered on the fight that female skiers are waging against the IOC.

No matter that perhaps one of these athletes, if not more, must somehow be connected to causes near and dear to B'nai Brith, in order to have been granted its institutional support.

Cheryl Gallant is known to be, among many regressively conservative colleagues, as one of the most fundamentally religious and consequently anti-feminist and homophobic.

It would appear that Stevie was not amused by the groundswell and grassroots response to his comments about left-wing fringe groups. Mr Grudgie-Pants may think that appointing Gallant to this post will placate his party's rightwing base but this strategy cranks up the declaration of hostility on his side. Here’s the thing: whenever SUZANNE, a.k.a. Blob Blogging Wingnut, the wannabe Sarah-Palin-lookie-like “Choice” for Childcare and ‘Hunter’ go ballistic with their anti-feminist screeching, MASSIVE lies are involved.

Distortion, spin, fabulating, obfuscation, falsehood, prevarication – call it what you will - it all boils down to big, fat lies offered up with the greatest of disingenuousness as reality. That reality for the close-minded, conservative, patriarchy-toadying anti-feminists is a load of fabrications cobbled from their fears, their inability to think coherently and their determination to slander the anti-violence work that feminists do.

Thus criminal charges against the alleged murderers of Zainab, Geeti and Sahar Shafia and Rona Amir Mohammed becomes an opportunity for a Blogging Tory anti-feminist to rail against feminists.

Hunter’s two-fold objective is muddled by her confused rhetoric, atrocious syntax, spelling mistakes and demented comments by her usual chorus of sycophants.

1) Discredit the decades of work that feminists have accomplished to ensure that all forms of familial/domestic/intimate violence against women is processed properly in the criminal justice system.

2) Attack people of islamic faith and/or culture.

The last words though belong to Sherene Razack.

Update: An ironic footnote to Hunter's "Where are the feminists?" screed. Yesterday she posted a YouTube video that has gone viral in the last week, with the inane comment "I suspect this will be a very happy marriage!". When you visit this 'lefty' (according to Hunter's definition) couple's website, they urge the fans of their joyful wedding ceremony to support a progressive organization working to end domestic violence. Duh!
