Another "honour" killing ...

Here are the undisputed facts of this killing, on record as the trial unfolds.

A man killed his girlfriend by hitting her head with a hammer at least 11 times, then he took a knife and stabbed pages of religious text into her body.

Court heard last week part of the passage stabbed in her body read “that which is crooked cannot be made straight.” The crown alleges the accused intended to kill her when he began bludgeoning her with a hammer following an argument about marriage and abortion. The victim, who had missed her period twice, told the accused she no longer wanted to get married, couldn’t handle caring for another child and would get an abortion if pregnant. She asked him to move out of her apartment.

The accused became angry, looked for a weapon, found a hammer, took it back into the bedroom, and he hit her over and over until she stopped screaming, the jury was told. The accused then fled to Montréal with another woman; the police arrested him upon his return two days later.

The accused confessed that though he did kill her, he had not intended to murder her.

I believe the reason that the usual islamophobes - Shaidle and her posse - aren't shriEEEking "honour" killing is that the religious text in question is the bible.  Does it seem familiar?

It should be.

In the memorable words of Mark Steyn, "Must be convenient to have a [religious] code that obliges all your pathologies."

Fundamentalist christianists shriek about "honour" killing which they CONveniently limit to muslims while disregarding the long tradition of Catholic sophistry which has justified centuries of femicide at the hands of men.

Will the christian Sharia anti-Choice supporters of Bill C-484 as well as Motions 312 and 408 defend this anti-abortion killer?  Certainly.  In his bludgeoning frenzy, the only beating heart he stopped was that of Lucita Charles - there was no zygote, embryo or fetus.

Let The Fetus©™ fetishists' pretzel-twisty propaganda begin!

We Are the 94 Per Cent

I'm going to type this very sloooowly for the hard of thinking.

Chris Selley, in commenting on the soundly defeated anti-abortion gambit that was Woodworth's Wank, puts the number of Canadians who want to outlaw abortion in the 3-5% range.

I'll be more generous to the fetus fetishists and go with a poll published July 4 this year.

Six percent believe that abortion 'should not be permitted under any circumstances'.

Which leaves 94% believing that abortion should be permitted under any or some circumstances.

Are we clear now?

Canada is pro-choice. Any attempt to outlaw or restrict abortion is DOOMED.

ADDED: For comparison, the percentage of USians who believe abortion should be illegal in all circumstances hovers around the mid-teen level in this 36-year tracking poll.

Dear Anti-Feminists

Another tragic victim of Woodworth's Wank is @roseblue's Twitter account. (@roseblue may be better known to DJ! readers as SUZY ALLCAPSLOCK.)

Mid- final frothing frenzy of fetus fetishizing, SHE disappeared. Her account had been suspended and no one knows why. Though there's been some fun speculation. . .

JJ found this record of her tweets.

SHE's blogging still, venting her venom at -- who else? -- feminists. (No link for the usual reason.)

http://www.bigbluewave.ca/2012/09/its-not-only-talk-about-unborn-that-has.html

Other CONNED women and at least one patronizing male are also screeching about 'feminist orthodoxy'.

I got to thinking about feminism.

If you are an anti-feminist woman and you vote -- even for candidates who'd stop that nonsense in a nanosecond -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman and you enjoy the rights of contract and property law -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman but sadly divorced yet benefitting from family law reforms (allowing you to have custody of your children, for example) -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman who practices safe, legal family planning including contraception and abortion (we won't tell anyone) -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman who wants to or needs to work 'outside the home' -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman who works and is paid the same as the man in the next cubicle -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman who has achieved higher education -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman in a profession formerly seen as 'male' -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman with recourse to sexual harassment/discrimination remedies in the workplace -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman who needs daycare for her children -- you didn't build that.

If you are an anti-feminist woman who took maternity leave to have those children -- you didn't build that.

And if you are an anti-feminist man whose mother, sister, daughter, wife, girlfriend, and female friends benefit from any of those things -- you CERTAINLY didn't build that.

Anti-feminist women love to SHRIEEEK: 'Feminists don't speak for me!'

No. We don't.

But our accomplishments -- and ongoing struggles -- benefit ALL of you.

You're welcome.

Sex Selective Abortion: Latest SHRIEEEEK!

People are all up in arms because Rona Ambrose, Cabinet Moron Responsible for the Status of Women, voted in favour of Woodworth's Wank, aka The Motion to Determine When the State Gets Up Into Our Hoo-haws.

This should be no surprise. She has voted for fetal rights before.

But here her 'worry' is simply ridiculous.
The federal cabinet minister responsible for the status of women has offered at least a partial explanation for why she voted in support of a pro-life motion in the House of Commons.

Rona Ambrose says on Twitter that she's long been worried about discrimination against girls through "sex selection abortion."
One would need way more than 140 characters to get from Woodworth's Wank to sex selection abortion as it requires some spectacularly twisty gymnastics.

Then, right on cue, today CON MP Mark Warawa tabled a motion to condemn sex selection abortion.

We've been down this path at DJ! several times.

Is gender selection happening in Canada? Seems so, but the numbers are dodgy and the methodology controversial. (See above link for specific studies and reports.)

There is NO evidence that the at-birth gender ratio is skewed in Canada generally as a result, unlike in India and China where it is widely practiced.

There is some (questioned) evidence that there may be a slight gender ratio difference in 'some communities'.

But, as we've argued here before, so what? We've got lots of people in Canada. The few 'extra' boys in 'some communities' may be forced to look outside those communities for partners.

And that's a good thing. *evilsmiley*

Running with the sensational story though, back in June, CBC did an undercover gotcha on private ultrasound clinics to see whether any were willing to test for gender before the usual 20 weeks' gestation mark.

The notion is that if information is withheld until after 20 weeks, women and families inclined to select for males will not be able to. Abortion after 20 weeks is not done in Canada unless for pressing reasons.

The CBC did find clinics willing to perform ultrasounds earlier. Most of the cases seemed to me a result of sloppy training or an over-eagerness to please. One of the cases is indeed disgustingly venal and exploitive.

So, is that the whole story?

Seems not. In the US, where the same 'communities' are under scrutiny, the practice is getting coverage too. Like this recent story in Slate: How to Buy a Daughter.
Much of the evidence that Americans preferentially choose girls is anecdotal, as no larger body tracks gender selection procedures. But data from Google show that “how to have a girl” is searched three times as often in the United States as “how to have a boy.” Many fertility doctors say that girls are the goal for 80 percent of gender selection patients. A study published in 2009 by the online journal Reproductive Biomedicine Online found Caucasian-Americans preferentially select females through PGD [preimplantation genetic diagnosis] 70 percent of the time. Those of Indian or Chinese descent largely chose boys.
Some want boys, some want girls. Things even out.

But, of course there's more.

In this article, the author argues that sex selection is a parental right.

And why not? If we stand for reproduction by choice, why would we eliminate one category of choice? Me, I don't see a problem.

But there is.

Perhaps ironically, sex selection has caused some consternation among some feminists, a group usually known for their vocal support of reproductive freedom. Their objections to gender selection center around the possibility that the practice will encourage gender stereotypes. Girls made to be girls, they say, will face an undue burden to behave a certain way, to take up an interest in fashion instead of basketball, for example. That's certainly a possibility, but the complaint overlooks the fact that males and females are actually different in some important ways, as a lot of research has shown. Given those differences between the sexes, is it really such a bad thing that parents may prefer to raise a girl instead of a boy?
Back in the Slate article, there is indeed some glurgey anecdotal crap about women wanting girls to shop, dress, and cook with.

Yuck.

But choice is choice.

You're for it or against it.

This issue is obviously the focus of the fetus fetishists' next gambit. It polls well for them.

From a January Angus-Reid poll:
Three-in-five respondents—including two thirds of women—believe there should be laws to outline whether a woman can have an abortion based solely on the gender of the fetus.
There oughta be a law!

I think Ambrose's idiotic justification and Warawa's Wank are just ploys to keep the fetus fetishists revved up and going for their chequebooks.

It may develop into something more serious and I'll woman the barricades again.

But I need a rest first.

Woodworth's Wank: A Personal Reaction

I watched the vote on Woodworth's Wank yesterday online. People had been predicting/guessing how many yeas it would get. I said 58. Kady O'Malley, the CBC House reporter who had in effect told us not to worry our purty little heads about it, weighed in with her number: 30 to 50. (I think she refined it later to 50, but I'm not sure.) Of the ones I saw or that used the #M312bet tag, Aaron Wherry won the fruit basket with 90. (It was 203 to 91.)

As MPs bobbed up and down for yeas and nays, my head was spinning and my gut was clenched. I quickly lost track of the count, but it was crystal clear that this was no crushing defeat.

There were waaaay too many yeas.

I felt I was going to throw up.

My reaction surprised me. It was visceral and emotional and not too rational.

When the count was final, I was dazed. Then I saw this tweet from JJ*.

She nailed it.

And people wonder why women worry our purty little heads about this 'trivial' stuff?

Later, @juicexlx offered a 'group hug'.

Woodworth's Wank: The Vote

Woodyworth's Wank was defeated.
A motion to study the Criminal Code's definition of when human life begins was defeated in the House of Commons Wednesday night.

Members of Parliament voted 203 to 91 against Motion 312, sponsored by Conservative MP Stephen Woodworth.
Not the crushing defeat we were hoping for. But defeated, nonetheless.

More maybe tomorrow. Now to decompress.

Woodworth's Wank: Update for Sept. 24/12

To no one's surprise, Arch Abortion Foe and 44-Year-Old Virgin, Jason Kenney, is in favour of Woodworth's Wank.

But today's news is that he, as a Cabinet Member in the government that swore up and down it would ^NOT reopen the abortion debate, is going to vote in favour of it.

Hm. Does that mean he is ^NOT a member of the government? Or that the government is ^NOT opposed to reopening the abortion debate?

Inquiring minds want to know. . .

In related news, via @canadiancynic, we offer this fabulous video.

The vote will be held Wednesday, September 26, at 5:00 p.m. EDT. All it needs is a simple majority, then presto! Twelve politicians -- seven, including the Chair, from the CON party -- will begin to investigate when Canadian Uteruses Become Wards of the State.

The 'I love gays' email from Jason Kenney

Yesterday, Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, this email from Jason Kenney's parliamentary account landed in my inbox at the address I use for blogging, tweeting, and signing petitions.
Friends,

Last Friday, my colleague John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke in great detail about Canada’s principled foreign policy, including our efforts to promote basic freedoms around the world, and to take a stand against the persecution of gays and lesbians, and against the marginalization of women in many societies. I made similar remarks in my speech last November to the global conference of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, where I raised the particular plight of gay and lesbian refugees.

As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I believe that Canada should always be a place of refuge for those who truly need our protection. That is why we continue to welcome those fleeing persecution, which oftentimes includes certain death, including on the basis of sexual orientation.

We are proud of the emphasis our Conservative Government has placed on gay and lesbian refugee protection, which is without precedent in Canada’s immigration history. We have increased the resettlement of gay refugees living abroad as part of our refugee programs. In particular, we have taken the lead in helping gay refugees who have fled often violent persecution in Iran to begin new, safe lives in Canada. We are also helping community groups like the Rainbow Refugee Committee to sponsor gay refugees for resettlement to Canada.

Please click on the web-links below for more information. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Hon. Jason Kenney, PC, MP

I thought it was weird, but in the lather of the debate on Woody's Wank, didn't think much of it.

Until I saw this.

After that, I saw a few more people wondering how Jason Fucking Kenney got their email addresses for this 'I LOVE GAYS' message.

I want to know. Who else got this?

And how did Kenney's office get our email addresses?

So I just replied to the email and asked.
What the hell? How did you get my email address? I have never
communicated with you or your office and have no desire to.

Seriously, I expect a reply to this question: Where did you get my
email address?

Was Leadnow hacked?

Or does Vic really know everything?

AND: I was just talking to sweetie. He got it too. And he signed onto the LeadNow M312 auto-email too.

UPDATE: LGBT targetted. As well as prochoice people?

Public Women, Private Women

I so do not belong to what this Guardian article calls paparazzi culture. Don't own a camera or cellphone. Don't do Facebook (I did for a period around the 'No Prorogue' stuff, but under my bloggy name). I have never liked having my photo taken -- the front-tooth-less bathtub shot (haha, Mom) was a heavy straw on that camel's back -- so there are just not a lot of pictures of me.

I have uploaded exactly one photo of myself -- that a couple of weeks ago onto LinkedIn. (I had and have severe misgivings about it, but hey, I need work.)

I had never heard of 'creep shots' and 'revenge porn'.

I had of course heard of the Royal Breasts Kerfuffle. But I didn't know this:
I suspect the most arresting photograph of the scandal will actually prove to be the one that shows where the photographer was apparently standing. An 'x' marks a spot on a public road, so far from the chateau where the couple were staying that you can barely make out the building itself. The perspective makes any argument against the right to privacy seem laughable, yet they continue. The editor-in-chief of Denmark's Se og Hør magazine, which published a 16-page supplement of the photos, has implied Kate must accept some responsibility for "willingly revealing her breasts towards a public road".
Really? Towards a public road?

The article describes creep shots and revenge porn and the Internet sites devoted to them. It details the harrowing experiences of young women caught by the creeps. And not just celebs, but ordinary women as well.

But really, this isn't surprising. It's just new technology applied to the male compulsion to control and dominate women, especially our sexuality.

This bit, however, jumped out at me.
The story prompts questions about why there is such a market, and therefore audience, for these pictures. As others have pointed out, it is not as though there is any dearth of bare breasts, consensually exposed and shared, on the internet. The answer involves a familiar combination of desire and humiliation. There is an interest in seeing not just any breasts, but all breasts, a sense that female bodies are public property, fair game – to be claimed, admired and mocked.
All breasts. All women as public property.

That made me think of Gerda Lerner, feminist historian and author of The Creation of the Patriarchy (1986), which I read avidly back then, being as perplexed as anyone as to how the hell it happened.

From an undated interview:
MISHLOVE: You're very explicit about this in your analysis of the ancient cultures that grew up in the Middle East, in ancient Mesopotamia. You point out that the subordination of women's sexual rights preceded even the creation of private property.

LERNER: That's right, and it in fact in my opinion led to what I call the invention of slavery, because it is a fact that has been acknowledged by every historian of slavery that the first slaves in every civilization that we know were women and children. But other historians have stated that fact, but they have never asked the simple question, well, why was that so? What does it signify? And I have occupied myself with that question very thoroughly and studied it.
While her book makes plausible arguments, it's a little short on hard evidence, natch. Until she comes to the Code of Hammurabi.

The Code concerned itself with contracts, property, and family relationships. What struck Lerner was that very harsh penalties were reserved for women who veiled themselves without proper authorization.

Because to be veiled was to be protected.
Since recorded history in Mesopotamia and Persia, the veil was a sign of nobility and seclusion for respectable and noble women.
. . .

Gerda Lerner cites the Code of Hammurabi as the institutionalizing of patriarchal control in the family. The state now controlled who must wear the veil and who must not wear the veil. The veil was a sign of the delineation between elite and common women.
Or between private and public women. To claim privacy for oneself was a serious crime.

The Code dates back to about 1772 BCE.

So, how far have we come, baby?

Judging from the creepsites, revenge porn, Royal Tits, shrieky reactions to Slut Walk, and the current tussle over reproductive rights represented by Woody's Wank, not very fucking far.

We are all still public women. And with new technology, more public than ever.

I watched the debate on M312 yesterday and followed along on Twitter during and afterwards. I read the reports and the comments on them.

I was dismayed by the ignorance and credulity. But what is most dismaying is the rage. Rage that women want to control their own lives. Rage that women want to own themselves. Rage that women want to grant themselves the status of private woman.

Middle-age has granted me a sort of veil. I have a red sun-dress that attracts double-takes. A male glances, registers 'Red Dress and Skin', looks back, registers 'Oh, Old Broad'. I grin at their disappointment. If I'm lucky, they blush.

That's my version of revenge porn.

Another apéritif

Apparently some sort of Parliamentary sophistry fest is going to start soon, so I thought that I'd would leave you with an apéritif, courtesy of some sub-equatorial blogfriends, otherwise known as "upside-downies."

Enjoy!

In other news, a CERTAIN PERSON has decided to reveal HER inner civil libertarian (or is that CIVIL LIBERTARIAN?)---I won't link, since SHE has a known tendency to be childish with the redirects---and reproduce some of the latest round of poor-taste Muhammad cartoons, presumably because of HER commitment to human rights and individual freedoms from state and religious coercion. Yup yup.

Thursday 20 September 2012

We Got Rallies, Mini-Rallies, MASSIVE Rallies, All Kindsa Rallies

Fall is a busy time for fetus fetishists and this year even more so.

First up, the second hour of debate and vote on Woody's Wank tomorrow (Sept. 21) and Wednesday (Sept. 26) respectively. (Note Kady O'Malley will be live blogging/tweeting the debate starting at 1:30.)

Also on September 26, the annual 40 Days of Harassment begins.

And in Ontario there will be a repeat of last year's Defund Abortion Rally that was sadly marred by the absence of Premier Tim ('I Will Defund Abortion') Hudak.

This year's Defund Rally, sponsored again by Campaign Lie, will be bigger and better. Of course.

They've done more preparation.
Since CLC Youth’s major Defund Abortion Campaign kicking-off last fall with a rally at Queens Park, we have been busy at work setting the framework for success. Since then, over 40,000 pamphlets have been delivered by constituents in ridings across the province, over 23,000 signatures have been collected for our petition in every riding across the province, and various members of provincial parliament have been visited by their constituents. Various MPPs are becoming increasingly sympathetic to our cause, with some even interested in taking this initiative further in Queens Park.

They've also added mini (ha) rallies at MPPs' constituency offices.
“This year we are kicking it up a notch. In addition to holding a massive rally at Queens Park like we did in 2011, we have also added a local element for 2012 with ‘mini-rallies’ across Ontario. These rallies will all happen on the same day, at the same time, to maximize the sheer awesomeness of this event,” said organizer Alissa Golob, coordinator for Campaign Life Coalition Youth.
Awesomeness? Sheer awesomeness? OK, then.

(Aside: How MASSIVE was last year's rally? Jim Hughes, Campaign Lie prez, personally counted each ff and came up with 2,300. Mind, this is the same guy who personally counted each ff at last May's March of the Feti and came up with 20,000 participants, when the highest any reputable source would go is 15,000, with most of the others citing numbers around 10,000. So, doing the lyingliar math, I'd guess there were maybe a thousand last year.)

I'm eagerly anticipating the annual push-poll they put out just before the shindig, for which they deploy more lyingliar math to assert that EVERYBODY, except Feminazis of course, supports defunding abortion.

This is the poll question that works best for fetus fetishists. While Canadians are stoutly prochoice, opinions on abortion funding split better for them. This poll from August 2010 finds that 39% support funding only in emergencies, while 44% support funding whenever.

The dates are interesting too, aren't they? Saturday for mini-rallies but Tuesday for the MASSIVE rally. Busses for Catlick school (funded by all Ontarians) kids are being chartered as we speak.

The irony of using tax-payer funding, a practice that 53% of Ontarians oppose, to protest tax-payer funding for something that 83% of Ontarians support -- at least in some circumstances -- doesn't seem to impinge on them.

One of the yuckiest features of this effort is the logo. A heart with toes? TOES? Are they promoting birth defects?

(Rats. I tried to enlarge it and Blogger wouldn't upload. I need to get better at this bloggery stuff.)

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll mosey over to my MPP's office to see for myself how 'mini' the mini-rally will be. If you have a mind to do the same, you can find addresses here.

The fun just never stops in FetusFetishistLand, does it?

Quick Way to Tell Your MP How to Vote on M312

For people not on Twitter, leadsnow.ca has an automated email to PMSHithead and your MP on Woody's Wank.

It's gratifying to see so many different people on the #M312 hashtag making the announcement 'Stop the covert attempt to criminalize abortion' and the link to leadnow.

The fetus fetishists infesting that hashtag have numbered about five, twit-spamming the same message over and over: 'I love #M312. Please vote for it' aimed at today's short list of MPs. Amusingly, the NDP Communications Twitter account is almost always included.

So, if you haven't yet emailed your MP, this is a really quick way to do it.

Synchronicity, Baby!

Some weird synchronicity is going to occur on September 26, 2012.

The vote to kill Woody's Wank, aka M312, aka the Motion to Create a Sub-Class of Canadians Formerly Known as Pregnant Women, will be held. At 5:00 p.m., we're told.

By the power of whatever body that declares such things, it is also designated World Contraception Day, or as we sluts call it, World Sex Without Squalling Consequences Day.

And, in consolation perhaps for their Crushing Defeat on M312, fetus fetishists will begin their bi-annual Persecution and Prayer Fest, 40 Days of Harassment.

Sounds to me like a good day for a party.

Monday 17 September 2012

Woody's Last Wank

It's soon over. Really.

Woodworth held what was billed as an 'update' on the status of Woody's Last Wank this morning.

There was nothing new of course. Just the same old, tired talking points.

Kady O'Malley was live-tweeting/blogging it.

And here is all we need to know about it in three tweets.

Someone tweeted that the last hour of debate is this Friday at 1:30 p.m. with vote on September 26 at 5:00 p.m.

Then it will be over.

Well, except for the martyrgasms and persecution fest. Which, while predictable, are fun at least.

Wankworth's Last Stand

Contained in the modern version of a 'brown envelope', this was slipped over DJ!'s transom.

A stupendously dishonest letter, with attachments, from Woody himself begging his colleagues to support Woodworth's Wank, aka Motion 312, aka A Duplicitous Motion to Prepare the Ground for Recriminalizing Abortion.

Here it is with his own bold faithfully reproduced.
September 14, 2012
Dear Colleague:
Re: Motion 312

1. I am enclosing a copy of Subsection 223(1), the law which is the sole focus of Motion 312. You will see that Subsection 223(1) is a 400 year old law which decrees the dehumanization and exclusion of an entire class of people we know to be human beings, namely, children before the moment of complete birth.

This is a direct assault upon the principle of universal human rights, which insists that every human being has an inherent worth and dignity which the state must recognize rather than merely a value assigned by others based on the utility or inconvenience of that human being.

2. I am also enclosing an extract from the judgment of Supreme Court of Canada Justice Bertha Wilson in her 1988 Morgentaler decision throwing out Canada’s abortion law. Justice Wilson was a woman of impeccable feminist credentials.

You will see from this extract that Justice Wilson left open the question of protecting the rights of children before birth for resolution by Parliament. Subsequent Supreme Court of Canada decisions have also left open this question for Parliament to resolve. Far from "re-opening" this issue, Motion 312 proposes the consensus-building dialogue which is the only path to finally closing it. This is in fact what Justice Wilson suggested.

You will also see that Justice Wilson concluded, like me, that the existing recognition only at complete birth is wrong, suggesting that it ought to be at some point in the second trimester of the child’s development. She did not regard this to be inconsistent with her decision on abortion.

3. Finally, I am enclosing a copy of Motion 312 itself. Please note that Motion 312 proposes no legislation (on abortion or anything else) and insists that the Committee also refrain from doing so. The Committee will merely study the evidence and report all available options.

Please also note that Motion 312 directs the Committee to respect all Supreme Court of Canada decisions. All existing women‟s rights are protected by this provision!

Laws like Subsection 223(1), which decree the dehumanization and exclusion of an entire class of people, deny the principle of universal human rights. That principle, which asserts that every human being possesses equal and inherent worth and dignity is the bedrock upon which all of other our laws rest.

No 400 year old law should be frozen in time, forever immune from democratic review and forever immune from advances in understanding.

Please support the mere study proposed by Motion 312.

Sincerely,

Stephen Woodworth
Member of Parliament
Kitchener Centre
Breath-taking, isn't it?

I could go through each word and phrase and thought and rip it all to ribbons of duplicitous, mealy-mouthed horseshit, but I'm so thoroughly disgusted and enraged that I will -- at least for now -- point out two things only.

1. The clear intent of this charade from its inception has been to close the abortion debate -- without, miraculously, opening it -- by setting the scene for a law limiting abortion to the period ending at mid-second trimester.

2. Woodworth does indeed have the words 'woman' and 'women' in his vocabulary, but uses them only a) to invoke a Canadian feminist icon or b) to outright lie about their rights.

There is more to say, of course, and I'm sure wise, sensible people will weigh in with their howls of derision/outrage observations.

The good news is that there is just a little more to endure. Monday, Woody will hold a press conference; Friday will see the final hour of debate; and then there's the vote on September 26 to once and for at least a generation kill any notion of turning back the clock on reproductive rights.

And we can finally say buh-bye to this shit.

(Nearly) Everything That's Wrong with USA . . .

. . . in one brief news bit.
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A Washington state man has been arrested on allegations that he pointed a handgun at a pregnant woman because she was smoking a cigarette.

Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young says 24-year-old Justin Dain Palmer reportedly stopped his pickup truck Wednesday to shout at a smoker on a sidewalk, "Who the heck smokes when they're pregnant?" The woman replied, "I do."

Police stopped Palmer a short time later. Young says Palmer acknowledged confronting the woman but denied pulling a gun. Police say they found two semiautomatic .45-caliber handguns in his pickup's center console.

Young says Palmer was arrested for investigation of pointing a gun.
h/t Lynn Paltrow who tweeted
threatening pregnant woman with gun cause she was smoking? A society in which we control pregnant women but not guns?

Now, if there is a racial angle, it's just about perfect, isn't it?

Official Radical Handmaids' Drinking Game

Get ready for September 21, when Woodworth's Wank, aka The Debate on When the State Takes over Your Uterus, gets its second hour of debate.

I want to add under 'take a sip' -- 'womb'.

Further suggestions and cocktail recipes welcome.

And remember, Mike likes 'em nubile!

coren 003
[...] Michael Coren managed to, within three-and-a-half minutes, feign passion for women’s rights and follow it up with vicious and slanderous lies against women’s health providers. See for yourself in the September 7 “The Real War on Women.” Coren called Planned Parenthood “a group—remember this—dedicated to making sure that as many babies are aborted as possible.”

For a group so committed to this goal, they sure allocate their funds strangely. Abortions account for only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s total services. Cancer and HIV screenings, contraception, counseling and other services account for the remaining 97 percent.

So according to Sun News, Planned Parenthood, the largest reproductive health services provider in the US, is actually just a bunch of baby abortion fanatics; just look how much of their activity is abortion!

It doesn’t take more than a little research to find out the truth. Doesn’t Sun News have fact checkers? Or is Sun News just lying to its audience, believing they are too stupid to look up the facts for themselves?

Even though Coren apparently has no qualms about malevolently lying about an organization devoted to women’s health, he makes sure to assure us he’s on the side of women’s rights. “I also find it repulsive that after decades of struggle for female equality, there are still many people on the left who speak of women in the plural, and in the collective, as though they have no individual identities or ideas… it’s almost like a slave-master mentality from the 19th century isn’t it?”
From here.

This isn't the first time that religious fundamentalist and christian-Sharia zealot Michael Coren has attacked US Planned Parenthood as well as the international organization. He also parrots the talking points that supporters of M312 have been regurgitating for months.

That particular line of attack on Planned Parenthood in the US is not original to Coren, though it's been debunked.

Instead of posting a clip from StunTV showing Coren's glib prevarications, here's one that deconstructs the willful harm that deliberate lies carried by schlock media inflicts upon its audience.

As for the title of this post, it's a reference to the StunTV Limbaugh wannabe's alleged interest in p0rn0graphy that features *adult* women disguised to resemble pubescent girls.

Juxtapose!

What the whistler whistles.
[September 5, 2012] Woodworth maintains that M-312 is not about abortion but fact-finding, and that Parliament should act on whatever evidence was presented by medical and scientific experts.
What the dogs hear.
September 10, 2012 – Motion 312 is recognized by many as having direct implications for the status quo on abortion in Canada.

Just so we're clear.

Part-Time Mayor Stupid

Mayor Stupid ducked out on an executive committee meeting to coach highschool football, prompting Adam Vaughan to roll out the 'part-time mayor' meme again.
“The executive committee is the mayor’s committee and he has responsibilities to it,” he said Tuesday. “He’s not being paid to coach football, he’s not being paid to do anything other than being mayor by taxpayers.”

. . .

“People who come to address committee expect to have an audience with the mayor,” Mr. Vaughan pointed out.

Mr. Ford dismissed accusations that he is not doing his job. “I work harder than any mayor ever has,” he said. He added that citizens who missed him at Monday’s meeting can always give him a call.

“I return all my phone calls,” he said. “Everyone has my number. Anyone who wants to call me I’d be more than happy to talk to them.”

Two years before the next election, Mr. Vaughan speculated that Mr. Ford is using his role as a football coach to raise his profile.

“I guess he sees that coaching football gives him a big publicity boost,” he said. “Being a folk hero is not his job. Being the mayor is and if he is not showing up for work he is not respecting taxpayers.”
Seriously. He thinks his job is to return phone calls.

On the other hand, as evidenced by his testimony at the conflict of interest thingy -- the best account of which is Edward Keenan's -- who knows what he thinks his job is?

Ford Nation responds to all criticism with: He won a majority, so STFU.

All Torontonians will remember the 2010 municipal election as having, IMO, the worst roster of mayoral candidates evah.

That said, Mayor Stupid did win. But strictly speaking, he did not win a majority.

Here are the numbers.

Ford: 47.1%
Smitherman: 35.6%
Pantelone: 11.7%

There were about 814,000 votes cast, or 53% of eligible voters.

I just did the math. Mayor Stupid actually had the support of about 25% of eligible voters.

That makes me feel better.

I am going to make it my personal Mission from Gawd to help get the other 47% of Torontonians off their butts next time.

But please Gawd, give us at least one credible -- ah hell, I'll settle for half-decent -- candidate.

A Beauty Pageant Too Far

Time Magazine writer Joel Stein was on the radio talking about his experience at the Rapeublican National Convention. And got into trouble with this:
“The conservative protesters, all they do is read the bible…all they do is read scripture and have giant, giant pictures of dead fetuses,” Stein responded.

“I’ve seen so many bloody fetuses that I can literally tell good looking fetuses from ugly fetuses,” Stein added, much to the amusement of the hosts.

Stein then suggested that the dead fetuses should be entered into a beauty pageant.

“I wanted to walk around and pick a “Miss Fetus,” he remarked.
Predictably, LifeShite had a hissy fit: NOT funny.

So, some of us at DJ!, being Vicious Abortion Crusaders® and all, thought it would be fun to stage a Dead Fetus Beauty Pageant. But some of us here at DJ! have for-shit photoshop skills and so we appealed for help to Our Lovely and Talented Mad Skillz Crew.

Who said: Yuck. No way. You're on your own mucking about with dead fetus gore pr0n.

Some of us whined: How about watermelon fetuses. Not even a Watermelon Fetus Beauty Pageant?

*crickets*

As a consolation prize, we were offered this.

ST. LOUIS -- Now children don't have to wait until they are 3 or 4 years old to participate in a major beauty contest. Thanks to the first annual Little Miss Fetus U.S.A. Contest to be held next month in St. Louis, it will be possible for babies to win prizes and fame while still in the womb.

"If a baby hasn't participated in a beauty pageant by the third trimester, it's too late," said event organizer Shay Dee Mann. "All of the other fetuses will have a head start that will be hard to overcome."

Judges will mark scores in five main events: Best Ultrasound Presentation, Talent Show, Question & Answer, Amniotic Swimsuit Competition, and Closest Mother-Fetus Lookalike.

While these events may seem difficult to televise, the pageant's press kit boasts, "Modern technology makes this easy. We can show real-time ultrasound images, and more developed participants can communicate by kicking -- once for 'no', twice for 'yes'. The talent portion is quite fascinating to watch."
There's something about beauty pageants, fetus fetishists and DJ! that keeps getting us into trouble too, like the Time guy.

Pray'n'Phone Update: You Can Skip the Praying Part

On the Pray'n'Phone Facebook page a high-school social studies teacher suggests that making M312 a 'Christian issue' is not a good strategy.

To which Miles, the genius behind PnP, replies (bold mine):
Aha now I know how you caught my spelling error. You're a teacher ;) Well, I never meant to marginalize those who don't follow the Lord. I appreciate the fact that there are unbelievers who want to protect unborn children. However we have to be extremely careful when we start to appeal to science as the absolute standard or truth. Let's not forget that the original criminal code defining unborn children was based on the science of its day. What makes us think we have all of our science perfected today? Look into it and you will find that there are many scientists today who deny the fact that the unborn are human beings. No, we have to appeal to an authority greater than our diary of observations (science). We appeal to the Creator of human beings. Now we're not going to start a debate here, the last thing we need is a division. I put the encouragement to pray in there because it is the most important thing we can do. If someone out there doesn’t want to pray, then I guess they can skip that step. God bless - Miles
Yo! Woody! You getting this? Contrary to your long-drawn out wank about updating the 'old' definition of human being in the Criminal Code with modern science, your latest (and I do mean 'late') supporter thinks science is unreliable.

And there, folks, is why M312 is going to be Dead on Arrival.

Saturday Pictures: Bellies and Vaginas

There are three categories of preferred fetus fetishist imagery: cute children, gory dead fetuses, and featureless and/or headless heavily pregnant bodies.

(By the way, the media is also MASSIVELY guilty on this score. Most stories about abortion are illustrated with stock photos of enormous headless bellies. Bellies far beyond the point that 98% of abortions actually occur. Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada provides some more appropriate stock photos here.)

Have a look at the current or recent offerings in the genre.

deBeuaxOs points out:
The pregnant women are featureless incubators, whose human rights are secondary to the *personhood* rights that Blob Blogging Whinge-Nut SUZANNE and other assorted lobbyists for The Fetus©™ would shove down the throat of the majority of Canadians who believe that the current manner of administering abortion works well.

The fetuses look like one-month-old infants, not the *preborn* that the lying liars are always yammering about.
Our sharp-eyed commenters had more to say.
Beijing York 9 August, 2012 3:05 PM

I think #2 is the independent, single, career woman whose partner's condom broke (and is at risk of taking the pill because of her age). But she should be punished nonetheless for failing to give her womb to the man and woman marriage cause, especially when her eggs where in their prime and many babies could have followed to fill that empty quiver.

Sixth Estate 9 August, 2012 5:15 PM

I'm with BY on this one. I can't help but notice that the middle one with the terrified child is the only woman wearing pants.

Have a look at a few more.

And one I just ran into at the Facebook page for Pass 312, the Pray 'n' Phone nutters.

Yet fetus fetishists go insane over 'vulgar, disgusting images' like this.

Well, they would, wouldn't they? Fun, creative, pretty vaginas -- WITH HEADS AND FACES AND OWNERS AND OPINIONS! SHRIEEEEEK!

We at DAMMIT are starting a collection of headless and/or featureless pregnant belly pictures. If you've got a fave, leave a link in the comments.

Oh Noes! Woodworth's Wank Will Now Pass for Sure!

This is so awesome I had to share.

As someone I know says, this is awesome with awesome sauce.

First, there was the cunning teaser for something mysteriously named Pass 312.

Then today, as promised, the Big Reveal.

It's hot off the presses and not up on their site yet.

Watch and marvel.

How to PASS 312 from OpenEye Creative Lab. on Vimeo.

The brilliant strategy! The majestic simplicity! The stunning production values! The Amerikan spelling!

Two steps to victory: 1) Pray and 2) Phone.

Sheer genius.

But it requires immediate attention.

Having been in some kinda Kristian rapture since Woodworth's Wank first appeared on the horizon on December 21, 2011, these junior fetus fetishists urge their fellows to get on the case from September 17 to 25, because, you see, the vote is to be held on September 26!

Get on your knees now!

I don't know about you, DJ! readers. This is just so crazy -- and brilliant -- it may work. I am officially skert now.

ADDED: Of course the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada has had all these tools and more available for months.

Hudak Hits the Road -- The Low Road, That Is

That Hudork, what a class act. After getting his ass kicked last night, or as Martin Regg Cohn put it, after he was humiliated, look what he had to say.
Tonight’s result has shown that public sector unions from across Ontario were provided with the perfect opportunity to concentrate their resources and lash out against the wage freeze we’ve been consistently pushing. They bought Kitchener-Waterloo and now we can expect the rest of Ontario taxpayers to pay for it as the NDP cut more budget deals to keep the Liberals in power.

This is bad news for Dalton McGuinty. He rolled the dice with an expensive appointment to trigger a by-election to try and gain his coveted majority. He failed and taxpayers lost. Even worse, he put off taking the urgent action needed to deal with Ontario’s jobs and debt crisis.

Now, more than ever, as public sector union bosses further entrench their interests in this minority parliament, we need to keep the government’s feet to the fire. The Ontario PC Caucus will proudly standup as the sole standard bearer of fiscal sanity and private sector job creation in this province.
Unions 'bought' Kitchener-Waterloo. Really, Tim?

Oh, and that 'expensive appointment' McGuinty made to trigger the by-election? He didn't. Elizabeth Witmer wanted out of politics because her husband has cancer.
Elizabeth Witmer put an end to speculation about why she stepped down as MPP after 22 years.

She said her decision had nothing to do with politics.

Her husband of 32 years has cancer.

Of course, we can't expect him to apologize to McGuinty, but he might think about apologizing to Ms Witmer for tacitly impugning her integrity to get a cushy job.

In related news, Hudork is trying desperately to turn the page and will release some kinda policy statement next week on health care.

How desperate is he? Will he pledge -- again -- to defund abortion?

You never know with a class act like Pandering Timmy.

"Honour" killing neo-CONs and christian sharia won't be shrieeeking about.

Well, isn't this inCONvenient for all the islamophobes?
A woman in Turkey is awaiting trial after beheading a man who she says raped her repeatedly for months and [impregnated her]. Her lawyer says the woman killed the man to protect her honor.

Nevin Yildirim, a 26-year-old mother of two, lives in a small village in southwestern Turkey. She said the man, Nurettin Gider, began the attacks a few days after her husband left in January for a seasonal job in another town, according to a source close to the case.

Yildirim said Gider threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her children, ages 2 and 6, if she made any noise, according to the source. That was the first of repeated rapes over the next eight months, the source said. [...]

On August 28, at least five months pregnant by a man who she said continued to rape her, Yildirim said she decided she had had enough. Gider was climbing up the back wall of her house. "I knew he was going to rape me again," she said at her preliminary hearing August 30.

She said she grabbed her father-in-law's rifle that was hanging on the wall and she shot him. He tried to draw his gun and she fired again.

"I chased him," she said. "He fell on the ground. He started cussing. I shot his sexual organ this time. He became quiet. I knew he was dead. I then cut his head off."
How would Paul Ryan, Todd Akin and the rest of the Rapeublicans react if a US woman "stood her ground" in this manner?

They may be concerned that it would set a bad example of "frontier" type justice but more likely, they'd be afraid that other women might start defending themselves as Nevin Yildirim did.

Remember her name.

Numbers, Numbers, Numbers

The big push is ON! The scary new tactic that will 'innundate [sic] our parliament with a message they can't possibly ignore!' will be revealed tomorrow in Woody's Last Stand.

And now we're getting skert.

Yesterday, We Need a Law (Like a Hole in the Head) issued a media release on the MASSIVE number of petitions MPs are receiving.
In the last session of Parliament on almost 250 occasions, MP's stood up on behalf of their constituents to present petitions in support of Motion 312 and calling Parliament to "restrict abortion to the greatest extent possible". The number of signatories to these petitions totaled nearly 19,000 different names.
Nearly 19,000 different names!

Gee. This online petition opposing Woody's Wank also has nearly 19,000 names.

Guess that's a wash.

The letter-writing campaign that was aiming for 100,000 letters to MPs and caught a lucky break when the vote on the motion was postponed from spring to fall, now has 65,318 letters recorded.

The postcard people (you remember those entrepreneurs, don't you?) aren't boasting any numbers. But they have a Facebook page, with 146 likes!

You skert yet?

Pass 312 -- they of the Big Reveal tomorrow -- has numbers too!
An estimated 100,000 plus letters and emails have been sent to our MPs this summer urging them to support Motion 312.
Estimated, double/triple-counted, number pulled out ass. OK, sure.

Pass 312 has a (now) working link to a Facebook page. It's got 176 likes!

And more numbers! Pass 312 intends to unleash a 'Street Team', now with 65 members across Canada. I guess we'll find out what the Street Team is gonna actually do to innundate [sic] MPs tomorrow.

Well, we certainly hope they won't be innundating MPs with idiotic compelling posters like these. (My fave is the one with the bullets. How did they do that? Get the bullets to stop like that? Though the car seat in DANGER is pretty compelling too.)

I doubt MPs could withstand a barrage of such hard-hitting messages and images. Particularly terrifying is the ransom note effect. *snigger*

Stay tuned. We'll be on the Big Reveal tomorrow.

If you gotta lie. . .

. . . something is seriously wrong with your cause.

LifeShite reports that an old pal of DJ's and father (snerk) of the current BAD (biased, agenda-driven) Abortion Science campaign, David Reardon, is at it again.
A new study of the medical records for nearly half a million women in Denmark reveals significantly higher maternal death rates following abortion compared to delivery. This finding has confirmed similar large-scale population studies conducted in Finland and the United States, but contradicts the widely held belief that abortion is safer than childbirth.
Funny that. It's the complete opposite finding from a study published in January this year that, not surprisingly, concluded that giving birth is 14 times more lethal than abortion.
Dr. Elizabeth Raymond from Gynuity Health Projects in New York City and Dr. David Grimes of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, found that between 1998 and 2005, one woman died during childbirth for every 11,000 or so babies born.

That compared to one woman of every 167,000 who died from a legal abortion.

The researchers also cited a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which found that, from 1998 to 2001, the most common complications associated with pregnancy -- including high blood pressure, urinary tract infections and mental health conditions -- happened more often in women who had a live birth than those who got an abortion.
I say 'unsurprisingly' because obviously women who give birth are pregnant a lot longer than women who terminate, so one factor is simply odds.

The researchers on the real sciencey study are quick to point out that both outcomes are very safe, but that to alarm women considering abortion with bogus health risks does no one any favours.

I was going to debunk this new study but thought I'd tweet the link to James C. Coyne, BAD science watcher, who very ably demolished Priscilla Coleman's latest.

Dr Coyne directed me to this blogpost of his in which Reardon makes a rather startling admission.
Did Priscilla Coleman write her review with the intention of building a literature to restrict access to abortion? David Reardon is Coleman's co-author on ten of the articles included in her meta-analysis and according to the NY Times is know as the "Moses of the anti-abortion movement." In an article, he announced his intention rather explicitly:
For the purpose of passing restrictive laws to protect women from unwanted and/or dangerous abortions, it does not matter if people have a pro-life view. The ambivalent majority of people who are willing to tolerate abortion in "some cases" are very likely to support informed consent legislation and abortion clinic regulations, for example, because these proposals are consistent with their desire to protect women. In some cases, it is not even necessary to convince people of abortion's dangers. It is sufficient to simply raise enough doubts about abortion that they will refuse to actively oppose the proposed anti-abortion initiative. In other words, if we can convince many of those who do not see abortion to be a "serious moral evil" that they should support anti-abortion policies that protect women and reduce abortion rates, that is a sufficiently good end to justify NRS efforts. Converting these people to a pro-life view, where they respect life rather than simply fear abortion, is a second step. The latter is another good goal, but it is not necessary to the accomplishment of other good goals, such as the passage of laws that protect women from dangerous abortions and thereby dramatically reduce abortion rates.
The intent of this BAD science is -- explicitly -- to make women fear abortion.

They admit they are simply creating doubts and raising fears.

This is NOT science. This is propaganda.

Asking For It, part 2

As Kay Mère has repeatedly demonstrated, not only is she tone deaf with regard to women's issues, her rigid rightwing blinkers also make her rabidly anti-feminist.

Over and over again she has clumsily yielded her hatred as a battering ram in situations requiring rational thinking and common sense judgement.

When she fixed her gaze upon the response to one tweet, she missed the basic message.

Don't rape.

It's that simple and basic. Responsibility and accountability for one's actions. No man - or woman, since sexual assault laws do not discriminate on the basis of gender - can justify forcibly coercing someone to have sex with them, no matter how their victim is clothed, or not.

But MASSIVE scold Kay mère has already designated the villains on this issue, the people she perpetually blames for all evil in society: feminists.

Can you identify how many kinds of wrong Kay shrieeeks about here?
Dressing like a slut – and nobody has to define it; we know it when we see it – may have started as an ironic fashion trend, the same as ripped jeans, but it has now become an activist costume, and strutting one’s sexual charms in a mimicry of prostitutes’ behaviour an act of political theatre.

What is forgotten in this “rights” performance is that real women — the ones most at risk of assault by men who crave their services but who have nothing but contempt for them as people — are being mocked. Most prostitutes would give their eye teeth to be “respectable” women wearing respectable clothing. They dress the way they do, because they have to. When women who don’t have to dress like prostitutes do so anyway, they are mocking society’s their most vulnerable sisters.
Strangely, Kay has nothing to say about the way Krista Ford and the members of the Lingerie Football League choose to dress, not even pronouncing judgement on whether their attire is "respectable" enough for Kay's impeccable standards of respectability.

Oh, and your piteous bleating about *mocking society's most vulnerable sisters*? Shove your faux-solidarity up your sanctimonious orifice, won't you?

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Kay and other enraged anti-feminist ladies against women embody Poe's Law.

To complement Barbara Kay's gynophobic views, I posted a trailer for a clever horror movie that explores what might happen if women evolved physiological weaponry that cut down rapists at the root of the problem.

Woody's Last Stand

Yee haw! Join the last stand for Motion 312!

The website lists five important 'facts', including this one:

3) Evey political party in Canada is opposing Motion 312.  Prime Minister Stephen Haper made it clear that he will vote against it.

But fear not! They have 4 million (ignorant) weapons they're about to unleash.
5) There are over 4,000,000 evangelical Christians in Canada.  That means 4 million people who have no excuse for ignoring the abuse of our unborn children (Psalm82:2-4).  Nearly 4 million people, however, who have no idea what Motion 312 is and have not yet contacted their MP in favor of it.
Yay! Four million ignoramuses! Who have failed to twig despite nearly nine months of SHRIEEKING by fetus fetishists!

Now for the threat! With wizard spelling!
You now know all that you need to know.  The responsibility is yours to act, to be the voice of millions who cannot speak for themselves!  How will you do that? On September 7, 2012 we will be anouncing [sic] a plan that will innundate [sic] our parliament with a message they can't possibly ignore!  Stay connected and spread the word!  We must act as one body in unison to make this work. We cannot fail our children!

And the Facebook link doesn't work.

Behold the 'last stand' of what JJ calls Profiles in Cluelessness.
But then again, why not: it’s in line with the haphazard and utterly clueless way the rest of the M312 campaign has been run, a confused and riotous crusade of Twitterspam, fetusmobiles, inconsistencies, transparent lies and general dumbness.  For an initiative thought by some to be the last kick at the anti-abortion can for a long, long time, the ineptitude of its handling has been breathtaking to behold.

And fun to watch.  Did I mention fun to watch?

Also, mercifully, soon over. The vote is scheduled for September 26.

Saturday 1 September 2012

Happy Labour Day!
