The Debate in Four (Almost Bearable) Minutes

Watch it and be afraid. Be very afraid.

And. Also. Would it kill the Fucking Useless Opposition® to agree to lay off each other for the duration and go after Evul Stevul?

Well. Would it?

Really? MSM Is Alive?

Here's a lovely headline I never expected to see:

A chicken and a liar.

David Olive writes:
What on Earth possessed Harper yesterday to challenge Iggy to a duel? And less than 24 hours later refuse to show up? And then lie about the incident?

The Globe.
Odds are that Stephen Harper will post his third win on May 2 and there’s a decent chance he will get a majority to boot. But not if he keeps on campaigning the way he has this week.
. . .

His coalition fear mongering is starting to sound a tad obsessive, and less rational. And by talking about this well past the point when voters have lost interest, he’s allowing his opponents’ policy ideas, like Michael Ignatieff’s education passport, to find some room in the news hole.

And from Politics and Its Discontents, a piece from The Star not yet online.
Tensions rise as Conservative leader imposes daily cap on queries from reporters at campaign events

HALIFAX— The cost to travel with Stephen Harper’s campaign? $10,100 a week.

The number of questions Harper takes each day? Five.

Looking like an over-controlling politician? Priceless.

I don't have anything to say. Just sharing my pleasure in watching the MSM find their gonaddy bits.

But I'm not practising my chicken dance just yet.

UPDATE from dBO in the comments: The Star story was on online but has been pulled and replaced with this. The comments from before are still there, though. WTF? Good thing Politics and its Discontents reproduced the entire article. You can still read it there.

Harper Wants to Campaign on the Economy?

Nice economy ya got there, Stevie, be a shame if . . .

. . . the Conference Board of Canada rates it 10th among 17 'peer' nations and sinking.
When grading is complete, the Ottawa-based Conference Board said Thursday, Canada will slip to 10th on a list of 17 peer countries in 2010 from sixth in 2009. The Conference Board’s advance rankings have Canada in ninth place in 2011.

Maybe you shouldn't have spent all that dough on gazebos, fake lakes, overtime for useless and/or brutal G20 G8 cops, and your religious cronies.
"Wycliffe Bible Translators slurped up a hefty $495,600 of your money and mine. But that was dwarfed by the $3.2 million awarded to an outfit called Youth For Christ--and, while children living in poverty on a reserve in Attawapiskat have been denied a new school for years, Edmonton's Newman Theological College was recently awarded $4.2 million of Harper's largesse."

Maybe you should have spent stimulus money -- that you didn't want to spend at all -- wisely as other countries did, like on green job creating strategies.
Environmental researchers say the Harper government could have created three times as many jobs if it had invested stimulus funding in climate projects rather than in traditional infrastructure.

An analysis by the Pembina Institute shows that climate-friendly projects tend to be more labour intensive.

It suggests the $16 billion Ottawa spent on building roads, arenas and the like during the recession could have created or maintained almost 240,000 green jobs — instead of the 84,000 the government boasts of.

The study was funded by the British High Commission and relied on Ontario government research into how effective environmental spending is on job creation.

The Conservative government put just eight per cent of its stimulus funding into climate projects — much lower than in other countries.
Yo! Liberals! NDP! The Harper Regime wants to run an election on the economy? Bring it on!!!!!!

Some Good News

It's a fact. Stephen Harper and his Conbots are delusional.
It’s widely said these days that Canada is moving politically to the right and that Canadians are becoming generally more conservative in their outlook on public matters.

It’s an assertion based sometimes on hope, often on conjecture, occasionally on fragmentary evidence, but never on serious facts and deep analysis. Indeed, the latest Focus Canada survey by the Environics Institute so completely demolishes the assertion that perhaps now it can be laid to rest.

Go read the whole thing. It will cheer you up.

Well, except for this bit:
The Harper government can take heart that 52 per cent of Canadians are satisfied with the country’s direction, compared with 40 per cent who aren’t. That’s the second-highest satisfaction rating (after China’s) in the world.

Well, and except for the fact that this news is based on sciency-truthy stuff, you know, that stuff that right-wing nut jobs are impervious to.

Resistance Is Not Futile!

In another episode of DJ! cheers 'Dividing the Right' or, DJ! visits Freak Dominion so you don't have to, the Freaks are discussing Stevie Spiteful's convo with Peter Man's Bridge in two threads.

One is a general discussion in which Stevie Peevie gets called a socialist, an anti-Conservative, and -- what's really gotta hurt -- a Lieberal.

Admittedly, some there think he's just dreamy. It's the speechies and fetus fetishists who are really pissed.

The other, titled Harper on KILLLING BABIES (caps theirs), more of the same sentiment is expressed.

My Facebook friend Connie WINS the thread with:
I will vote CHP, Libertarian, or spoil my ballot if neither of those option exist. I will NOT send another body to Ottawa to join Harper's borg.

Yeeheehee.

Let's make it a meme!

ADDED: You go, girl.
Harper could throw us all in his nice shiny new prison cells and some of you would say, "Just be patient until he has a majority".
