My last (I hope) post on Bruinooge's 'Stringing the Fetus Fetishists Along Bill'.

The Head Count.

Bloc all agin it. A few didn't vote.

ReformaTories really mixed. Cabinet ministers against it. Usual fetus fetishists for it. Some interesting nays, one from Julian Fantino, for example. Shelly (Farm Hair) Glover voted for it -- hmm, I thought she was supposedly pro-choice. But then it would take more than two functioning neurons to figure out that this is actually a backdoor anti-abortion bill, so there's that explanation. Again, some interesting no-shows: Rona Ambrose, Leona Aglukkaq, Lisa Raitt, and Helena Guergis, who, I think, was giving birth, presumably voluntarily.

Liberals also mixed. As Antonia commented, ten anti-choice Libs: Kevin Lamoureux, Ruby Dhalla, John McKay, Dan McTeague, Paul Szabo, Alan Tonks, Jim Karygiannis, Gurbax Malhi, Albina Guarnieri, and Lawrence MacAulay. No shows: Iggy, Marlene Jennings, Keith Martin, Peter Milliken, Maria Minna, Joe Volpe.

NDP all nay, with some MIA.

So, that seems to be it for anti-choice panty-sniffing bills at the moment. Maurice Vellacott's C-537, 'Life Begins at Fertilization Bill' seems to be stuck at first reading.

Stringing the Fetishists Along: Final Phase (We Hope)

The Stringing the Fetus Fetishists Along Bill had its second hour of debate yesterday.

The bill was supported with speeches by Bruinooge, Kelly Block (Saskatoon—Rosetown—Biggar, CPC), Bev Shipley (Lambton—Kent—Middlesex, CPC), and David Anderson (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and for the Canadian Wheat Board, CPC).

Speaking in opposition were France Bonsant (Compton—Stanstead, BQ), Niki Ashton (Churchill, NDP), and Brent Rathgeber (Edmonton—St. Albert, CPC) [CPC??? huh???].

This morning Rod Bruinooge was on The Current lying his ass off as usual. (Listen at the link. There are also two clips from the debate: Shipley and Ashton.)

In her introduction, Anna Maria Tremonti briefly related the story of Roxanne Fernando's murder. Then said:

Roxanne's story struck a chord with Rod Bruinooge. He's the Conservative MP who he chairs the multi-party pro-life caucus in Parliament. He believes Roxanne was killed because she refused to have an abortion.

Note careful phrasing: 'He believes.' But, as regular readers here know, Roxanne's murder had zip zero nada to do with abortion.

Bruinooge blathers on for quite a while, repeating that Roxanne was killed defending her 'unborn child' and denying his bill has anything to do with abortion. Oh, but he also got in the phrase abortion in Canada is 'legal for the full nine months' several times.

Anna Maria tried to pin him down on his own opinion of abortion. But he wiggled and said that he supports the laws of Canada, or some such hogwash (I can't bear to listen again, but if someone wants to supply the exact phrase, I'll insert it). She let that go.

She did try to pin him down on the number of 'coerced' abortions happening in Canada. Well, he didn't have a number, but he felt sure there were lots of them. To her credit, she pressed on that and repeated something like 'even though we don't know how prevalent such situations are. . . '

Then, in rebuttal, Dawn Fowler, Canadian Director of the National Abortion Federation, came on to talk about violence against women and to wonder why Bruinooge's bill focussed on pregnant women coerced into abortion and did not include pregnant women coerced into continuing an unwanted pregnancy.

He dodged that to repeat 'full nine months' again, which of course got up Dawn Fowler's nose and she denied that abortions occur in the ninth month. 'It just doesn't happen.'

More blah-blah. Then Susan Delacourt came on to discuss the politics of it, specifically of Stevie Spiteful.

So, yeah, we feminazis could get behind a bill that 'protected' all pregnant women from coercion of any kind. Though how exactly that might work, I have no idea.

Because we know that pregnant women are coerced, threatened, harassed, and intimidated every bloody day.

So, the second-reading vote is tomorrow, December 15. Stevie Peevie has instructed his cabmins to vote against it and people in the know seem to think that'll be enough to kill it.

I sure hope so.

New Poster Girl for Coerced Abortion? Probably Not.

As more information comes out, I'm guessing that Melinda Morin may not turn out to be the ideal new poster girl for the Stringing Fetus Fetishists Along Bill, aka C-510, Bruinooge's private member's bill on 'coerced abortion'.

The Calgary Sun reports:

Morin, under cross-examination by Crown lawyer Eric Tolppanen, denied allegations she attacked Godwin because he was tossing her off his gravy train.

“You were basically homeless if not for Neil,” Tolppanen told the Calgary woman.

“I would’ve went back to Saskatchewan if I wanted to, but I wanted to be with him,” Morin said.

She acknowledged Godwin was kicking her out of his northeast Calgary condo because she continued to live a drug lifestyle.

“It was a pretty low point in your life,” Tolppanen suggested of Morin’s prospects of being thrown out of Godwin’s home.

“You’re pregnant, addicted to cocaine, no job and the one person that was providing you steady shelter is kicking you out,” the prosecutor said.

“Yes,” Morin agreed.

But the confessed killer said she was willing to leave, but Godwin wouldn’t let her go until she agreed to abort the unborn child she says was his.

“I wanted to leave, I was trying to leave because I didn’t want the abortion.”

The Calgary Herald has this to add:

She testified they had been dating for about three months and she spent most nights at his home, but also worked as a prostitute. She said Godwin didn't ask her to stop turning tricks, as the money helped pay for her drug habit, but she just wasn't supposed to do it at his home.

Do you think the fetus fetishists will recognize what a can of worms they're trying to open with Bruinooge's badly camouflaged anti-choice 'chill' bill?

Hmmmm. How will the fetus fetishists spin this?

Refusing to get an abortion left a pregnant Calgary woman in a life-and-death struggle with her boyfriend, an accused murderer testified Thursday.

And Melinda Morin insisted she had no choice but to use deadly force to repel an angry Barry Neil Godwin.

In November 2009, Morin stabbed Godwin five times, any one of which, according to the medical examiner, would have been fatal. There were no drugs or alcohol in Godwin's body, but cocaine was found in hers.

Aeeiiiii! Another of the multitude of coerced abortion attempts that Fetus-Fetishist-in-Chief, Rod Bruinooge, will put an end to with his private member's bill C-510, glurgily nicknamed Roxanne's Bill for the woman who was NOT murdered because she refused to have an abortion.

See? They're right. Coerced abortion is rampant and vulnerable women need Rod Bruinooge's protection. She had no choice but to stab the guy FIVE times.

Oh. Wait. There's a witness with a different tale to tell.

Witness Stephen Yetman said the couple's bickering outside the building woke him up at 1:30 a.m. that night. He said he looked out the window and heard the spat escalate to threats. He said Godwin blamed Morin for allowing drug dealers into his home.

Gee. Coerced abortion or pissed-off (pregnant) cocaine user? A classic he-said-she-said. But in this case, he's not around to say anything.

Well, it appears we'll find out sooner rather than later how this case will be spun. LifeShite reports that the second hour of debate and vote have been moved up to December 13 and 15 from February.

I'm watching the FF's Facebook page, but so far they seem blissfully unaware of the potential of this case for their cause.

I wonder how the TheoCon Patriarchs will feel if the bill becomes law and presto! becomes all-purpose excuse for pregnant women to attack and kill men.

LifeShite is reporting that The Stringing Fetus Fetishists Along Bill will get its first hour of debate next Monday.

Bill C-510 is bathetically styled 'Roxanne's Law' after a woman who was NOT -- contrary to the lying liars' claim -- murdered because she refused to have an abortion.

On Monday, Rod Bruinooge and his merry band of misogynists will no doubt spout a bunch of bullshit about the MASSIVE numbers of women coerced into abortion.

Alas, to no avail. Stevie Spiteful has already nixed the deal.

There will be another hour of debate in December then a vote.

Then we'll be done with this round of Kicking Abortion's Ass.

The Stringing Fetus Fetishists Along Bill is NOT about abortion, right? Let's hear again from Rod Bruinooge on the matter:

Bruinooge insists he’s not trying to push the Commons into a debate the Prime Minister has specifically banned, arguing that nothing in his bill would make it illegal to obtain an abortion.

“This bill doesn’t affect gestational limits or access to abortion in Canada,” Bruinooge told reporters Thursday morning. “It’s something that in fact doesn’t reopen the abortion debate but it does make it a crime to threaten or intimidate a woman into abortion.”

Now let's hear from Mr Kicking Abortion's Ass: Dern tootin'! It is ALL about abortion.

Not bloody likely, according to a poll released today indicating that young Canadians are more abortion- and gay-marriage-loving than ever.

Meanwhile, membership is growing at the new Faytene-free Facebook group, while the wall there is strangely moribund. They seem to be allowing hardcore fetus fetishists again, including Mr KBA -- using his real name, John Pacheco -- and whackjob Bill Whatcott, who writes:

Odd, innit? Fetus-fetishizing and outlaw-lynching so often go together.

Pro-Choice Group Calls for Law Banning Coerced Childbirth
NATIONAL – A bill recently introduced by a Conservative MP to criminalize “coercing” a woman into abortion should be scuttled in favour of a bill prohibiting the much more common practice of coercing a woman into childbirth, says the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC), a national pro-choice group.

“It’s wrong to pressure women into an abortion, but this does not occur on the grand scale often claimed by anti-choice propagandists. It mostly stems from situations of domestic abuse,” said Joyce Arthur, Coordinator of ARCC. Arthur pointed to a recent U.S. study that examined reproductive control of women by abusive male partners. “Some were pressured to have an abortion, but women also reported that their partners prevented them from obtaining or using birth control, threatened them with pregnancy, or forced unprotected sex on them. If they became pregnant and wanted an abortion, some partners threatened or pressured them to carry to term.”

In 1989, Chantal Daigle of Quebec had to travel to the U.S. for an abortion after her boyfriend got an injunction preventing her from having an abortion. Canada’s Supreme Court subsequently ruled that male partners cannot force a woman to have a baby.

“It’s not just partners or family members who try to compel women and girls to have babies against their will,” said Arthur. “The entire anti-choice movement has been trying to force women into pregnancy and motherhood for decades, by working to outlaw or restrict abortion. Perhaps we need to protect women from this coercion by criminalizing anti-choice activism!”
