Judge to Fetus Fetishist: FFS!

One of the Jubillee Jailbirds, Linda Gibbons, was in the news last week.

Again.

But some good news to report. Judges are getting increasingly pissed off at these scofflaws.

After sentencing Gibbons to the max, without reduction for time served, the judge displayed her, um, annoyance.
The judge went on to administer a tongue-lashing to Gibbons at today's hearing.

"She has indicated no remorse to the court," [Madam Justice Feroza] Bhabha said angrily. "She believes in the rightness of her cause ... (but) abortions are legal. Miss Gibbons does not appreciate that it's a legal right."

The judge added a "strong message" needs to be sent to her and others that "there needs to be respect for the law" and she characterized Gibbons as "a martyr for her cause ... It's very likely that she will appear again before this court."
. . .

She said Gibbons's continual appearance before the courts meant she was not amenable to "rehabilitation" and her conduct "must be denounced," with general deterrence emphasized in order to "enhance respect for the law."

Commenters over at ProWomanProLie are wallowing in glurge. Lookit this from 'antigonon'.
It is arguable that Gibbons – along with Mary Wagner, also in jail in Toronto, & for the same reason – may doing the most valuable work on earth. By their willingness voluntarily to absorb a small measure of the injustice inflicted on the innocent, no child dies without this incomparable witness to their value. They are thus – humanly speaking – not utterly abandoned. Hard to see what else in the world stands against injustice as these two do.
That would be Mary Wagner, the other Jubilee Jailbird, who was something of a cause célèbre among fetus fetishists last year when another judge let fly.

Quote from LieShite. Note ellipses.

“You’re wrong and your God’s wrong,” [Judge S. Ford Clements] continued. “You have complete contempt … There is a right to (abortion) in this country … You don’t have a right to cause (abortion-seeking women) extra pain and grief the way you do.”

Fox News North and assorted other usual suspects went batshit Christian martyr-crazy and the judge got his wrists slapped for his little
tirade.

But at least her attempt to get public funding to take her 'cause' to the Supreme Court was also slapped down.

They continue NOT to get it. Yes, you have the right to freedom of speech. What you do NOT have is the right to the audience of your choice.

[Sorry for all the LieShite links. They are the only ones to cover this crap.]

Halloween Jailbirds

*Sigh*. One of the Jubilee Jailbirds has been arrested again.

Yes, Linda Gibbons is up to her one-trick-pony trick again. Outside an abortion clinic, but according to the LieShite story, now with supporters. Plural.

One of her supporters had a video camera, proof at the link.

Maybe Linda wanted to join her pal Mary Wagner, who is still in jail, to show her what her little trinket looks like. Mary will get one too, courtesy of one of Canada's fetus fetishizing MPs, Maurice Vellacott.

In Canada, we celebrate the Queen's Jubilee by giving commemorative medals to convicted serial clinic harassers.

A petition asking the Governor General to correct this travesty is here.

BONUS: At Twitter, on the Zombie Hashtag #M312, insane fetus fetishists (well, only one so far) are tweeting about abortion as a satanic ritual.

Only in Canada, You Say? Shame.

Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada has put up a petition asking the Governor General and PMSHithead to retract the Queen's Jubilee Medals from the Jubilee Jailbirds.
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medals were awarded in October to two convicted criminals. Conservative Member of Parliament Maurice Vellacott selected Linda Gibbons and Mary Wagner to receive medals. Both women are anti-choice protesters who repeatedly and deliberately violate Ontario court injunctions that ban protesters from harassing women as they enter an abortion clinic.

Wagner has illegally invaded clinics, frightening patients and staff and obstructing clinic operations. Both women have been in and out of jail for years, showing no respect for the rule of law or the rights of others.
Sign the petition here.

Jubilee Jailbirds

So, that 'vetting' of Queen's Jubilee nominees supposedly done by the Governor General turns out to be not very rigorous.
Rideau Hall can vet nominees only against the “core eligibility criteria” for the medal, a process that amounts to little more than checking for a pulse and a passport.
Jailbird status -- past or present -- does not factor in.

OK, then.

We join our pal Canadian Cynic in encouraging an Opposition MP to do this.

Wouldn't that be fun?

Take That, Henry!

Who didn't see this coming?

Two convicted serial clinic harassers 'pro-life heroines' -- one actually in jail at the moment -- receive Queen's Jubilee Medals.

After all, REAL women was one of the non-governmental 'partner' groups advising on the award of 60,000 of the honours.
REAL Women is outspoken on several issues: They are strictly anti-abortion, believe in the traditional definition of marriage, oppose Canada’s “promoting [of]easy divorce legislation” and say the Supreme Court has too much power. They say Winnipeg’s Human Rights Museum project was spearheaded by “left-wing extremists” that included “representatives of homosexual and feminist interests.”

They also have criticized the “wayward” Michaëlle Jean, the former governor-general, who they say “cavorted” with separatists and Liberals. They wrote that Ms. Jean “appears to be a lightweight with little or no grasp of Canadian history, culture or traditions.” (A spokeswoman said Ms. Jean, now chancellor at the University of Ottawa, wouldn’t comment on the issue.)

This did not deter the office of Ms. Jean’s successor, Governor-General David Johnston, from inviting REAL Women of Canada – an order Rideau Hall says came from the federal government.
From the federal government, eh?

REAL Women, in addition to being fervent fetus fetishists, are also virulently homophobic.

It is simply pay-back for Dr Morgentaler's Order of Canada, a point Gwen Landolt of REAL Women makes perfectly clear.
Landolt pointed out that if Henry Morgentaler, Canada’s ‘father of abortion’ who “kills for a living and destroys human life,” can receive the Order of Canada - Canada’s highest civilian honor - then “its about time that someone who fights to protect life gets recognized”.
What vile, petty little people they are.

Martyrgasm, Supreme Court Style

Linda Gibbons, serial and unrepentant clinic harasser, has had her day in the Supreme Court.
By an 8-1 margin, the justices rejected Linda Dale Gibbons’s argument that she should never have been charged under the Criminal Code for picketing too close to a Toronto abortion clinic.

The high court did not wade into the emotionally and politically charged abortion debate, but instead confined itself to a single, technical, legal point: whether Ms. Gibbons should be dealt with under criminal or civil law.

Ms. Gibbons maintains she should have been dealt with under civil law for disobeying a court order, not charged criminally.

She was charged under section 127 of the Criminal Code. She argued that she should have been entitled to an exemption under that section that would have taken her case out of the criminal courts.

The justices disagreed.

The ruling means she will go to trial if the prosecution decides to pursue the case.
(Comments are closed on the Globe story.)

Cue the martyrgasms!

From the NatPo:
Linda Gibbons, 63, who is in jail again, has long maintained she has a right to peaceful protest and that the courts were unfairly pursuing her because of her unpopular views on abortion.

Gibbons, calling from prison in Milton, Ont., said she was not surprised the court ruled against her.

“The courts and the government have failed in their duty to protect the unborn.”
Ya dimwit. The courts are pursuing you because you will not obey a COURT ORDER.

Now the conspiracy theory from LifeShite.

It's not a matter of DISOBEYING a court order, they say. She trying to overturn the bubble injunction.
The Supreme Court of Canada dismissed an appeal by pro-life prisoner of conscience Linda Gibbons on Friday morning as she continues her 18-year battle to overturn a Toronto injunction banning pro-life activity outside of abortion facilities.
. . .
Her lawyer, Daniel Santoro, argued that the Crown is taking her before the criminal court because the civil court would have the power to overturn the injunction.
Really, fetus fetishists should raise more money and buy her a lawyer who, you know, understands Law.

So, she's gonna keep getting her ass tossed in jail. Fine.

And DJ! is now done with her. (Unless, of course, more blazing brain damage is occasioned.)

Time-wasting and Grandstanding

There is another anti-choice martyr, in addition to fetus fetishist poster-granny, Linda Gibbons, though they seem to work as a tag team.

This one's name is Mary Wagner and her legal troubles go way back too. (All links come from LifeShite; I can't find any other reporting of this momentous case.)

She was charged with mischief and two counts of failing to comply with probation orders (indicating previous brushes with the law, yes?).

She'd been harassing patients and workers at the Bloor West Village Women's Clinic. But she's not content to stand on the sidewalk with gory pictures; she enters the clinic with flowers, brochures, and counselling in-person harassment.
First on the witness stand was Patricia Hasen, who described herself as a nurse and 50 per cent owner of the abortion centre Bloor West Village Women’s Clinic Inc., which was established in 2005. . . .

On November 8, she said there were 10-12 patients and their escorts at the site when she was alerted by a co-worker that “Mary is in the clinic” and called the police, as she usually does in such circumstances. She said she then asked Wagner, whom she saw carrying roses and pamphlets, to leave several times, but Wagner refused to do so.

Hasen claimed, “People were getting upset, crying, asking why we weren’t doing something” about Wagner’s presence. She then asked the patients’ escorts to leave the site and brought the patients themselves into a secure area behind bulletproof glass, where “counselling” takes place and abortions are committed. She said Wagner moved to enter the secure area and tried to “push” her way through by holding the door open, but the door was eventually closed and police arrived in 15-20 minutes.

Toronto police officer Douglas Eaton was the second Crown witness and testified that he arrived at the abortion site to find “a lone female standing in the lobby” and arrested her under the Trespass to Property Act after asking her to leave and she refused. He noted she was holding a bag and flowers at the time. Under cross-examination by Browne, Eaton acknowledged no attempt had been made to interview any of the patients who were allegedly so upset at Wagner’s presence.

Her lawyer argued there was reasonable doubt. The Crown countered:
Ishak continued there was no evidence that Wagner was there simply for the purpose of communicating with patients. Holding the door, he added, went beyond simple communication. Finally, he said, there was no justification for Wagner’s presence in the first place, as she was forbidden to be there by a probation order.

The next hearing was held March 21 and that's when the shit hit the fan.
An Ontario Court of Justice judge erupted in a lengthy, angry tirade against pro-life activist Mary Wagner – and ejected a spectator from the public gallery – in a downtown Toronto courtroom Wednesday. The judge then sent Wagner to jail for an additional 92 days, added to 88 days already served prior to trial, after finding her guilty of mischief and two counts of failing to comply with probation orders.

The Crown and defense had agreed to ask for time served and a three-year probation.
But [Judge S. Ford] Clements emphatically rejected the submission.

“She can sit in jail, if that’s the only way to protect people,” he fulminated, calling Wagner “cowardly” for “abusing other human beings” and not having the courage to make her views known through other channels. “This is an extraordinary waste of resources. Get a grip!”

“You don’t get it, do you? What’s the rule of law? You’re required to abide by it … You’ve lost the right as a citizen to be anywhere near an abortion clinic or to speak to an employee,” he said.

“You’re wrong and your God’s wrong,” he continued. “You have complete contempt … There is a right to (abortion) in this country … You don’t have a right to cause (abortion-seeking women) extra pain and grief the way you do.”

“[Abortion] is legal,” he continued, “that’s all you have to understand … You start causing people emotional pain and harm, you think that’s okay?”

He then asked Wagner whether she would stay away from abortion sites for three years as required by the proposed terms of probation.

“I will not,” Wagner replied firmly.

“Then you’re going to jail,” said Clements.

Oo. Sounds like at least one member of the judiciary has had it with these time-wasting, grandstanding fetus fetishists seeking martyrgasms.

Natch, LifeShite is going berserk.

No word yet on an appeal. But you can betcha there will be.

Time-wasting and grandstanding. . . Right. Have we reminded you to sign the petition opposing M-312 aka Woodworth's Wank in the last couple of hours? No? Then do it.

ADDED: For them's as can stomach it, the The Freaks are freaking out. There is one brave soul over there, calls himself smallLliberal, taking some serious heat. They are all twisted up over dissing the Christian god, activist judges, free speech, baby murdering. FUN!

Today's Top Fetus Lobby Comment

Today, there are two -- count 'em -- stories in the NatPo on welfare-mom, anti-choice-poster-granny Linda Gibbons.

In each one she is depicted as a martyr who has suffered enough/been oppressed for her cause.

(The occasion is the hearing of her case by the Supreme Court today.)

As is not unusual, I'm on deadline but waiting for client to get back to me with info vital to my getting the fuck on with it.

In short, I'm kinda stuck at my 'puter.

So I posted a comment on each, then got into it with a couple of fetus fetishists. I also posted a link to that old DJ! post at the top.

On the second one, by Dan Gurney, the discussion seems a bit more rational for some reason. Yet, when I remarked that the NatPo had two stories on this pathetic person today, I got this in reply:
Fern I love your arguments. They are as empty as befits an airhead. Your mother should have aborted you and saved the state money on wasted education. I know you will take this as a compliment as a flappy collection of fetal material. Hitler was perhaps right, worthless human beings should be exterminated. I trust you would be first in the queue.

Oh and if this post offends you, trusting you understand it, go back and read that vile blog you referenced. I know you will treat this post with the same sense of amusement

Calling my blogpost vile while wishing me exterminated, with Hitler thrown in for good measure.

The day is still young, but I'm calling this one FTW!

UPPITY-DATE: Apparently, NatPo called it for the win too. It's been deleted. That link takes you to the article. My comment and the reply both gone.

MORE UPPITY-DATE: My bad. All comments are gone.

Welfare Mom Redeemed!

If you hang around the darker parts of the toobz as I do, you'll probably run into the name Linda Gibbons.

Ms Gibbons is frequently arrested for hanging around in places she is not wanted. Abortion clinics. Her name comes up on fetus fetishist sites as a 'martyr for life'.

Well, she's back in jail again for refusing to abide by the conditions of bail -- which is to stay the hell away from abortion clinics.

There's a weepy piece in yesterday's Notional Pest. Full of details both interesting and irrevelent (viz. she has spent more time in jail than Karla Homolka. Yep. They went there.).

So, while I've read about her martyrdom a few times, I didn't know anything about her personally.

I found this bit very interesting (emphasis mine):
Ms. Gibbons eventually married, had a daughter but she and her husband split up. A couple of years after the end of her marriage, in 1971, she became pregnant again. She had an abortion.

“I was living on social assistance and I was going to school. I didn’t see any way that I could have another baby. I wanted to become self sufficient, but I wished now someone would have counseled me out of doing it.”

A year after the abortion she went to a doctor and asked to be sterilized. The doctor advised her not to do it and suggested she was suffering guilt from the aftermath of her abortion.

Though she never married again, she eventually had a son and another daughter. She worked a number of different jobs keeping her family afloat. At one point, Ms. Gibbons said, around 1977, she began to think about God again and decided to go back to church. She thought of going to the liberal United Church but inadvertently walked through the door of much more conservative Protestant denomination.

'Eventually married' in a sympathetic piece is odd, doncha think? 'Nuff said there.

She and hub split. Oh dear. One wonders. . .

Then another pregnancy. While on social assistance. . .

Finding herself in a tough situation, as many, many women do, she made the choice to terminate the pregnancy.

Never married again. Two more children.

Then, beginning a career of being in the wrong place, she winds up among the fundies.

And voilà! Creepy fetus fetishist is er, born!

A single welfare mother with serial ooopsie! pregnancies without the responsibility to, you know, try to avoid those ooopsie! bits. Just the type that fetus fetishists and conservatards of all descriptions love to demonize.

But now redeemed! Reborn! Commanded to do Gord's work of harassing women just like she was.

Or, lounging around in jail talking about it.

So, these days, Ms Gibbons gets her martyrgasms living at our expense, while harassing the most captive audience an attention-seeking nutbar could wish for.
She talks about how much she loves “her girls,” referring to her much younger fellow inmates, who she gets to counsel against drug use and life on the streets. She glows when she says that she has saved three babies from abortion while on the inside.

And the serially pregnant welfare mom meme continues:
The bright light for her in all of this is that her 15-year-old granddaughter was recently pregnant and decided to have the baby, making Ms. Gibbons a great-grandmother. She is very proud that her granddaughter decided to have the baby.

Awwwww, isn't that special?
