Cesaria

Obrigada.

A veritable inspiration in so many ways, Cesaria Evora performed at the Ottawa Jazz Fest in 2003, if I recall correctly.

A quiet presence on stage, Evora's voice was a sensuous bridge that traversed centuries and continents, connecting people through the power of emotion and music.

I was so sad when I turned on the 6:00 pm newscast and heard about this. Her voice was so beautiful and her songs so charming. I wish I had gotten the chance to see her perform.

The G&M piece says she started performing in small venues and did so for decades, until she hit the big time in the early 1990s.

It explains a lot about her unassuming and diffident stage presence. What an amazing and unique voice.

BY, if you ever get a chance to see Salif Keita perform, do. Here's what I wrote about him. in April this year.
