Not in My House

Holy Moly! I was just at a decidedly feminist blog when an ad for $arah Palin popped up.

No feminist would click on such a thing, but its very presence is a sharp slap in the face.

I don't know much about how such advertising works, but it is my understanding that a siteowner has little, if any, control over what sort of ads appear. We at DAMMIT JANET would be appalled if we exposed our readers to the Quitbull's mug -- unless accompanied by some serious snark of course -- let alone contributed in any manner, however miniscule, to her campaign.

And that's why DAMMIT JANET will remain ad free.

A lot of the ad services work on keyword searches performed by bots. Which is why you get a place like the thoroughly irreligious and hilarious Jesus'General site that constantly has ads for the Mormons and Scientologists and other churchy types all over it. Always nice to get dollars from the enemy, or conversely to know that no one is clicking through on the ad and the advertiser is wasting their time and money.

Yeah, when I was blogging at Birth Pangs, we were amused by the number and sort of anti-abortion ads we attracted.

And your point about dollars from the enemy is good. But still, while blogging platforms are free, why do it? Again I say that I don't know much, but I understand that the money from GoogleAds is tiny unless a blog has a ton of traffic. And even so, it just seems yucky.
