When did the RCMP jump the shark?

Is it some point between the development of the restraining device pictured above and the moment Commissioner William Elliott publicly lied confabulated to cover up the implicit weaponry war that a number of officers have been allowed to wage?

Go read RCMP : Getting away with murder by Alison at Creekside.

Yes, it is very unfortunate for all the RCMP officers who do not support nor act according to the current policing practices that Elliot sanctions and justifies. They are decent people. But their colleagues have dragged down the force to such tangled and corrupt depths that disbanding the whole organization is the only solution to the menace the RCMP poses to public safety.

Funny, I was just wondering about that today. When did they become so corrupt?

Or...have they always been that way?

Well, I'm old enough to remember (but not well) the Horsemen getting busted for burning down barns in Quebec and blaming the FLQ. That was in the 60s, wasn't it?

And, why on earth have they put those iron mittens on a woman? And why does she look amused about it?

I believe that woman is Matthew Derosia's mother. That photograph was taken after she gave him the keys to her car. That's why she looks amused.

And here I thought it was an anti-masturbatory device. They were big in some asylums when the practise was thought to be mind destroying.

With the RCMP's continued self-love, maybe the analysts of the day had a point.
