Democratic lawmakers have received death threats and been the victims of vandalism because of their votes in favor of the health care bill, lawmakers and law enforcement officials said Wednesday, as the Congressional debate over the issue headed toward a bitter and divisive conclusion.

Representative Steny H. Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland and the majority leader, said at least 10 House members had raised concerns about their personal security since Sunday’s climactic vote, and Mr. Hoyer characterized the cases as serious.

At least two Congressional district offices were vandalized and Representative Louise M. Slaughter, a senior Democrat from New York, received a phone message threatening sniper attacks against lawmakers and their families.

Ms. Slaughter also reported that a brick was thrown through a window of her office in Niagara Falls, and Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat of Arizona, said Monday that her Tucson office was vandalized after the vote.

The Associated Press reported that the authorities in Virginia were investigating a cut propane line to an outdoor grill at the home of a brother of Representative Tom Perriello of Virginia, after the address was mistakenly listed on a Tea Party Web site as the residence of the congressman. Representative Bart Stupak, Democrat of Michigan and a central figure in the measure’s abortion provisions, reported receiving threatening phone calls.

67 percent of Republicans (and 40 percent of Americans overall) believe that Obama is a socialist.

The belief that Obama is a “domestic enemy” is widely held—a sign of trouble yet to come.

45 percent of Republicans (25 percent overall) agree with the Birthers in their belief that Obama was "not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president".

38 percent of Republicans (20 percent overall) say that Obama is "doing many of the things that Hitler did".

Scariest of all, 24 percent of Republicans (14 percent overall) say that Obama "may be the Antichrist."

While the progressive blogs, like this one, understandably focus on the ReThuglican numbers, have a look again at the overall numbers.

Has the US rightwing conservative media, including FoxNews which is basically infaux-tainment, finally jumped the shark? Or perhaps it actually happened when I wasn't paying attention. Or perhaps this little brouhaha is a variation of Poe's Law?

Rush Limbaugh is attempting to purchase a NFL franchise. In response to this, CNN and others have publicized a great number of racists quotes attributed to Limbaugh. Mark Steyn claims that these are all fabrications and challenges those who are repeating this information to provide documentation that Limbaugh actually uttered pronouncements such as:

Limbaugh called illegal immigrants an "invasive species." Referring to an April 1, 2005, federal court ruling that prohibited shipping boats from dumping of ballast water containing "invasive species," including some types of mollusks, into U.S. waters, Limbaugh described illegal immigrants as an "invasive species" that U.S. courts willingly permit to enter the country.

Limbaugh repeatedly calls Native Americans "Injuns." Media Matters for America documented at least four separate instances of Limbaugh using this slur on his program.

Can you imagine another country in the world in which a speech by the democratically elected head of state is boycotted by schools???!!!???

Barack Obama staged a tactical retreat today in the face of accusations that a nationwide broadcast to schoolchildren next Tuesday amounted to an attempt at political indoctrination.

Republicans and other conservatives, such as the Fox News presenter Glenn Beck, buoyed by their success in opposing his health reform plan, opened up a new front over the schools broadcast. One Republican accused Obama of seeking to spread socialist ideology.

The education department last month asked schoolchildren, as part of activities surrounding the broadcast, to send in proposals for how they could help Obama. They were also asked to discuss "notable quotes" from Obama speeches on education.

Republicans objected that this amounted to politicisation and also condemned what they claimed would be a speech setting out Democratic policies to school children. Schools across the country are planning to boycott the broadcast and are organising alternative events.

I was never an Obamaniac. But FCS, I didn't think he and his administration would turn out to be such a bunch of PUSSIES in the face of batshit bugfuck certifiable insanity.

No shit. A panty-sniffing state representative in Ohio has re-introduced legislation he cooked up two years ago. Not only must a woman get permission, there are criminal penalties for failing to.

"Providing a false biological father would be a first-degree misdemeanor the first time, which means not more than six months and jail, and a maximum $1,000 fine," Adams said. "And on the second occasion, providing false information would be considered a fifth-degree felony."

But no, it's not about controlling slutty women, notatallatall.

Adams told the newspaper that, in cases when the mother does not know the identity of the father, the abortion would be prohibited.

Here are some bits from a story on the original bill from July 2007:

As written, the bill would ban women from seeking an abortion without written consent from the father of the fetus. In cases where the identity of the father is unknown, women would be required to submit a list of possible fathers. The physician would be forced to conduct a paternity test from the provided list and then seek paternal permission to abort. . . .

With the proposal, men would be guaranteed that voice under penalty of law. First time violators would by tried for abortion fraud, a first degree misdemeanor. The same would be the case for men who falsely claim to be fathers and for medical workers who knowingly perform an abortion without paternal consent.

In addition, women would be required to present a police report in order to prove a pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.
