Nova Scotia Religious Groups That Will Get Canada Summer Jobs Grants

Here are the religious groups in Nova Scotia that did not succumb to the spin and bad-faith arguments on the Canada Summer Jobs attestation or "abortion clause."

I point out again that the attestation could as well be called the "sexuality/gender/gender identification clause" but why bother? The media and the "faith community" (meaning mostly the Catholic Church) chose to see it purely as ABORTION!!!!!

In fact, there are more Catholic groups in this lot that didn't get the memo, including the Knights of Columbus.

The usual reminders on process: I was going by name only, quite literally. All (known) religious groups got tagged. Others that sounded "churchy" got checked. Caps and quotation marks from original document. Where "no website" is noted I could not find a website for that particular group. (Obviously there is a website for "United Church of Canada" but sometimes I couldn't find one specific to that riding.) Where a link is not provided, it is elsewhere in this blogpost. I haven't done the hyperlink thing, because there are too many. Sorry, you'll have to copy and paste.

Asterisks indicate a Catholic organization.

Mega thanks again to the Data Monster.

And in a tiny bit of good news, some media outlets have acknowledged -- albeit at the end of otherwise shrieeeeeky articles -- that indeed religious groups have applied and been funded.

The Employment and Social Development Canada website shows hundreds of churches among the employers who were approved for funding this year, along with faith-based camps.

Join the #DefendAbortion Tweet Fest Tomorrow

Fetus fetishists plan to spam their provincial legislators tomorrow in a Tweet Fest urging them to #defund abortion.

They've targetted four provinces.

DAMMIT JANET! proposes a counter Tweet Fest using the hashtag #DefendAbortion.

At DJ!, we live to serve, so here are the lists of provincial pols on Twitter from PoliTwitter.

Alberta

Nova Scotia

Manitoba

Ontario

We've reported on these feeble efforts before. They've been centred in Ontario so far. Like this lame little gathering from March this year.

Sadly, this rally had been postponed from the previous fall when Hurricane Sandy pooped on their parade.

The planned rally was announced with some hoopla at Queen's Park, 'sponsored' by three MPPs, who unaccountably did not attend.

They were Rick Nicholls, John O'Toole, and Randy Hillier.

Only @RickNicholls and @RandyHillier have Twitter accounts.

I intend to concentrate my spamming efforts on those two.

Along with @timhudak, aka He Who Would Defund Abortion Until It Became Too Hot a Potato, of course.

Check out politicians on Twitter from your province and identify those who might be receptive to defund/defend messages. You can also check Campaign Lie's handy list of MPPs, MLAs, MNAs, abd MHAs to find out where they stand on abortion -- if they've bothered to answer its questionnaire. Many I checked had not.

If you need some talking points for why abortion must be fully funded, ARCC has you covered here.

Let's do this.

UPDATE: Wow. Alison in the comments points out that ALL the comments at LifeShite on this article come from Murricans blatting about ObamaCare and the US government shut-down. Now we know that fetus fetishists aren't the sharpest pencils in the box, but this is a bit much. Alison asks: Just where does the funding for the Canadian anti-abortion gang come from again?

MORE UPDATE: AntoniaZ in the comments prefers #DefendChoice. Fine by me. But in this case, it is specifically abortion they want to defund. So I'll used #DefendAbortion and add #DefendChoice if I've got characters to spare.

EVEN MORE UPDATE: Alison expands on her comment at her blog.

AND MORE UPDATE: I haven't read this yet (11-page PDF). The Evangelical Whatsits have updated a 2012 evaluation on the requirement to fund abortion by provinces. Arming themselves for tomorrow, it seems.

Priest enslaved girl he claimed was his orphaned niece.

Raoul Deveau was a Catholic parish priest, a predator and a pedophile.

It is claimed by two victims in Nova Scotia - there are likely more - that Deveau preyed on them with impunity and that Church officials and possibly others in positions of authority knew what he did yet let him continue.

Deveau told Linda Deschamp to call him "uncle" because parishioners and teachers asked him about the relationship; Deveau claimed that she was his orphaned niece. In fact she was a child neglected by her family; he gradually enslaved her by sexually abusing her and forcing her into servitude. She cleaned house and prepared meals for him for over 10 years. Deschamp was 12 years old when Deveau first approached her.

"This is so wrong. You're tired of hiding the secrets. They need to come out and people need to be made aware of that," Deschamp told CBC.

Deschamp said her large family was poor, so she was sent to work for and then live with Raoul Deveau, a parish priest in Shelburne. He died in 1982. She remembers him as a jovial person, a "community god" who seemed genuine about helping
parishioners. She trusted him.

"At first it was consoling and it was, 'poor girl,'" Deschamp said. "It kind of gradually built up — offering me food while I was there, and when you're hungry that looks pretty good as a child. And then it was clothing. And then of course there were trade-offs after that."

Deschamp said the abuse by the man she was forced to call uncle lasted for nine years. She ended up moving with Deveau to another parish. "He had me so dependent on him," she said. "He owned me 100 per cent."

Institutional collusion between the Catholic Church and local authorities, with regard to the physical, emotional and sexual abuse of children, also occured elsewhere Canada. Hundreds of orphaned or abandoned children suffered like those in Ireland did, in the province of Québec.

Bruno Roy died last night; he was instrumental in leading the adult survivors (Duplessis' orphans) in a civil suit that held the government as well as the Catholic Church accountable for the harm that was done.
