The 'I love gays' email from Jason Kenney

Yesterday, Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, this email from Jason Kenney's parliamentary account landed in my inbox at the address I use for blogging, tweeting, and signing petitions.
Friends,

Last Friday, my colleague John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke in great detail about Canada’s principled foreign policy, including our efforts to promote basic freedoms around the world, and to take a stand against the persecution of gays and lesbians, and against the marginalization of women in many societies. I made similar remarks in my speech last November to the global conference of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, where I raised the particular plight of gay and lesbian refugees.

As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I believe that Canada should always be a place of refuge for those who truly need our protection. That is why we continue to welcome those fleeing persecution, which oftentimes includes certain death, including on the basis of sexual orientation.

We are proud of the emphasis our Conservative Government has placed on gay and lesbian refugee protection, which is without precedent in Canada’s immigration history. We have increased the resettlement of gay refugees living abroad as part of our refugee programs. In particular, we have taken the lead in helping gay refugees who have fled often violent persecution in Iran to begin new, safe lives in Canada. We are also helping community groups like the Rainbow Refugee Committee to sponsor gay refugees for resettlement to Canada.

Please click on the web-links below for more information. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Hon. Jason Kenney, PC, MP
Calgary Southeast

I thought it was weird, but in the lather of the debate on Woody's Wank, didn't think much of it.

Until I saw this.

After that, I saw a few more people wondering how Jason Fucking Kenney got their email addresses for this 'I LOVE GAYS' message.

I want to know. Who else got this?

And how did Kenney's office get our email addresses?

So I just replied to the email and asked.
What the hell? How did you get my email address? I have never
communicated with you or your office and have no desire to.

Seriously, I expect a reply to this question: Where did you get my
email address?

Was Leadnow hacked?

Or does Vic really know everything?

AND: I was just talking to sweetie. He got it too. And he signed onto the LeadNow M312 auto-email too.

UPDATE: LGBT targetted. As well as prochoice people?

Interesting. I signed the petition and got an e-mail newsletter from my MP, Joyce Bateman (CPC). Now I have communicated with her and her staff by e-mail on many occasions (and she managed to get my physical mail address for some response letters) but I was surprised to end up on some mass e-mail mailing list for her newsletter yesterday. Later, yesterday evening, I got this message:

Our office experienced an unfortunate clerical error involving various email contact lists and many have received the Bateman’s Bulletin in error.

We are so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please be assured that if you are on the Bateman Bulletin subscriber list that you will continue to receive future Bateman Bulletin Updates.

If you are not a regular subscriber and would like to receive updates on the work your MP Joyce Bateman is doing, please reply to this email address using the subject line “Subscribe Bateman’s Bulletin”

Thank you very much.

Unless you're in Kenney's riding, the Leadnow petition shouldn't have gone to him. That's why I was surprised by an immediate form letter response from my MP. But the other stuff was strange.

Also note, the Kenney does not support gay and lesbian refugees from Catholic countries, or probably a host of other countries that are not on his EVIL MUSLIM REGIME list.

As resident TechnoDolt, I'm not sure what you're saying, BY.

I am definitely not in his riding. So since the auto-mail was to go to PMSHithead and my MP (and I don't think Olivia Chow turned it over), either PMSH is allowing others to mine the emails or LeadNow was hacked? Or something?

I've Tweeted LeadNow to ask if they have anything to say.

Fern, it would have helped if I had written that I "wasn't" surprised to get an immediate response from my MP since the petition would have been sent to her by LeadNow.

But it was strange that I (and others it would seem) ended up accidentally on a newsletter circulation list. I'm also a TechnoDolt so I have no idea how one suddenly appears on a CPC or MP's distribution list without having requested to be put on that list.

Somewhat clearer.

But what's to stop PMSHithead from forwarding the email addresses (last I looked, about 38,000 of them) to other Cons or to Con HQ?

Knowing that M312 opponents are likely not Con-friendly, Kenney sends out his 'I love gays' screed. Testing the waters?

I put nothing past this gang of scum.

Maybe we're on their list to see if (a) they can appeal to us re: seemingly LGBT proactive position, or (b) can robocall us to go to the wrong polling station come next election.

Antonia Z posted this comment on another post. I think she meant for it to go here.

I got it too. I've signed so many petitions supporting all kinds of human rights, I lost track. However I did find it weird that it landed in my e-mail out of the blue. I suspect he's trying to make the Harper Government™ out to be the good guy re: Iran (when they're actively mongering for war against it, in fact), not to mention that Iranian woman who's likely to be deported for stoning on false grounds. It also came hot on the heels of Kimberly Rivera's deportation, which I'm sure Jay-boy actively pulled strings to speed up. Shameful pinkwashing, and it won't work on me; I'm not their "friend", and I'm also not L, G, B, or T.
