How Low Will They Go?

In today's instalment of 'How Low Can They Go?', we have weeping fetus fetishist Dean Del Mastro calling Justin Trudeau a 'a bad Catholic'. Trudeau is rightly pissed.
Liberal MP Justin Trudeau says he is upset and offended by a Tory MP who publicly questioned his adherence to the Catholic faith and his suitability to speak to students at a Catholic school.

Dean Del Mastro, the parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister, said on Facebook last month that it was “outrageous” the Catholic school board in Peterborough, Ont. had invited Trudeau to speak for a second time in three years.

And what is really rich is that Del Mastro is not just tasteless, classless, and crass, he's a flaming hypocrite. (Yeah, I know, you're gob-smacked.)

Two years ago, Deanie got smacked down by a top honcho in the Catholic church. Thus:
A Roman Catholic in “good standing” must attend mass every Sunday and holy day of obligation, says the vicar general of the Diocese of Peterborough.

“There is nothing to stop a Catholic person from attending services elsewhere if he or she chooses to do so. However, Catholics are still required to attend Catholic mass every Sunday and holy day of obligation,” said Father Raymond Rick.

“You’re either a Catholic who is practising his faith or you’re not.”

Seems that while Deanie likes to parade his Italian Catholic heritage and play kneesies with Pope Maledict, he's a not very closeted fundy.
Del Mastro told The Examiner he’s been confirmed, and got married, in a Catholic church, but now attends Calvary Pentecostal Church. He said he attends Catholic mass “from time to time.”

“I bear no ill will to anyone at the Catholic Church,” Del Mastro said.

Yeah. Except Justin Trudeau.

Like I said: Asshat.

h/t for old story @CometsMum.

really, this is so not news - I'd file this under who cares.

"Liberal MP Justin Trudeau says he is upset and offended ...."

Think about it - who cares? Can Trudeau make some noise about something that is not about him, and well, about others, hmm, like, the 99%????

jan: Not to offend your little orange heart, but my point was not Trudeau's offense, but Del Mastro's hypocrisy.

Seems like Trudeau Derangement Syndrome crosses party lines.

Sorry, but I find the revelation of Del Mastro being a Pentecostal of very much importance. Except for some batshit crazy Catholics like Ms. ALLCAPS, most Catholics I have known have never taken to the streets to denounce women's and LGBT rights.

Pope Ratzinger can decry and moan all he wants but it's not the Catholics in North America who are waging war on progressive thought and policy - it's the freaking right wing fundamentalist Christians who got an incredible toehold with Reagan who are reaping the damage. It just figures that this idiot is part of that fold. And because all CONtempt party MPs lie as a default, he tries to brand his disgusting views on women and LGBT folks as being driven by his Catholic heritage.

Catholics need to decry Ratzinger as Pope and the rest of somewhat rational Protestant churches (United, Methodist, Aglican) need to distance themselves from these reactionary, gospel of prosperity, evangelical con artists and hate mongering churches.

BY: Exactly. Most Catholics I've known are pretty sensible people. It's the fundies who scare the bejasus out of me.

OK, fuck it. This has already prompted some pearl-clutching on the Tweeter, but I really don't give a shit.

Over the centuries, this archaic, hierarchical, misogynist institution has enabled genocide, torture, ethnic cleansing, racism, fascism, class warfare, homophobia, and sexual abuse. Does it really matter whether Dino is a better Catlick than Justin?

OB: No, it doesn't matter. You know that nobody here at DJ! is real fond of what dBO calls the Vatican Taliban.

Personally, I don't give a shit if people believe in sky fairies. The point is that such superstitions have no place in policy or law. And the comments from J. Trudeau demonstrate that he's quite capable of keeping his faith out of his politics.

Unlike the Contempt Party and their supporters.

But it's a dirty move to call someone a 'bad' anything. Like, WTF?

And I say again: ESPECIALLY when Dino is a half-assed Catlick himself and really more of a fundy.

Exactly, most Catholics are pretty sensible on LGBT issues but the right wing-nut element exists.

In 2004, a local K of C Chapter in Winnipeg sponsored a petition against same-sex marriage. The wording was so bogus (it said the government would legislate churches to perform them) that I avoided it and so hate-filled that the RCMP investigated. The local Bishop and Pastor ordered its withdrawal. (moot since the SCC decision was rendered that week). I mean - I CAN'T remarry in the Catholic Church because my first marriage has not been annulled (but I could marry anytime legally).
