As a woman, I don't like pulling out the old sex-sells strategy, but its use in politics is somewhat interesting. I've suspected the federal CPC has a bias toward selecting female candidates they think will "appeal", so the NDP isn't the first to use this angle.
For Horwath it is tricky because she also has to sell herself as a competent leader. I think perhaps she can marginally get away with this because she is a bit matronly. If she wasn't, this advertising strategy would likely do her in. As it is, it is still marginal. But I suspect it will get somewhat more votes than it will lose. The sex side usually wins the can't-we-move-beyond-this-side.
I'll bet Whoddat would look great in a pair of FMPs. In fact, I'd like to see all the Con candidates in heels - it could be called "The Run For The Cur".

It's all part of her master plan, Fern! Enticing you by showing little shoe. Then, once she gets your vote, she might show you the other one...
*sigh* Ugh. OTOH, if it works, use it. I guess.
I need a shower now.
I had no idea that's what they were called!
Good grief! What's happened to the NDP?
That shoe, once upon a time, would have been a sensible burnt orange pleather-clad Birkinstock!
Oh. Wait.
I thought it was funny. The TV ad is even better.
