Youngest-Ever Dinosaur Elected Speaker

Meet the youngest-ever Speaker of the House, Andrew Scheer. Who is also a rabid fetus fetishist and homophobe.
He says he was excited to join the new [Reform] party, but even more excited to raise important issues. At the time, the same-sex “marriage” issue was headline news. He was also concerned about high taxes and their impact on family life. “I noticed the trend of people putting off marriage and child-bearing because they couldn’t afford it,” he said, explaining that many economic issues are social issues, too – and vice versa.

He is also unabashedly pro-life and has been rated “pro-life” by Campaign Life Coalition all three times he has run. In 2008, after the governor-general gave the Order of Canada to abortionist Henry Morgentaler, Scheer spoke out. He said, “I am greatly disappointed that Canada’s highest civilian honour has been politicized and debased by this appointment.”

When he ran in June 2004, he said the same-sex “marriage” issue was “front and centre” and that he unapologetically defended traditional marriage. He said the issue helped him, considering that both his Liberal and NDP opponents supported SSM and many constituents were either opposed or uncomfortable with changing the definition of marriage.

When the marriage debate took place the following year, Scheer said C-38, which redefined marriage to include homosexual couples, “is abhorrent to me … and to every member of every faith community” and he explained why he was voting against the bill.

As @danspeerin tweeted:
Our new #spkr41 is super pro-life and anti gay marriage - That's right the youngest speaker ever, somehow has the views of our grandparents

Good thing this little twerp won't be voting.

He's my Mom's MP. I somehow doubt she'll be particularly impressed. I know she didn't vote for him. (She's gotten very socialist in her old age.)

Remember that he is a protege of wingnut homophone, and current CHP interim president, Larry Spencer. No amount of brain bleach is gonna deprogram that. Pass the popcorn --- going to be interesting so see how long he can maintain a facade of neutrality. As we all know, socons just. can't. help. but stick their breaks into other people's business. They're on a "mission from God" as the Blues Brothers used to say...

And yet, he's had good things said about him as standing for Speaker.

Maybe he's an expert rules lawyer. There's always one in every role game; has all the editions memorized. Could be very good. Could be very bad. Guess we'll find out when anyone in the House not wearing Conservative, I mean Canadian, Blue, calls foul.

My point was just that if a Con got the (non-voting) job, it's just as well it is a thorough going Antediluvian like this twerp.

The ReformaTories paid no attention to the previous Speaker's rulings, so WTF difference will this make? I think none.

A perfect choice for Harper, an ideologue who might still have to deal with the contempt charges, or the falsifying of invoices in 2008 when they first took power or the fraudulent insert of the Auditor General statements that they made on their last day in power and everything between. There is no positive here, just manipulation.

OT, but dinosaur-related...

Oh noez!!! Johnny Tubesock's Jihad against the CBC for their "false reporting" on the crowd numbers at the March for Feti isn't working out so well...

Bwahahaa!

Hmmm. I worry about the procedural ways someone could bend over backwards to facilitate so-con private members bills...

Makes my hate for this appointment even stronger. I just couldn't believe that a rookie with minimal experience gets this plumb position: 200k+ salary, swanky apartment, Kingsmere estate and all sorts of other perks.

I'm thinking we should all join the CONTEMPT party to get cushy jobs while destroy that party from within.

I've been away from Canada for quite some time, so my recollection of how speakers are chosen is kind of hazy (I mean, more hazy than it was). The House votes on candidates running for this position, doesn't it? If a majority of Conservatives are supporting someone who is an ideologically rigid neophyte (i.e., a speaker with a good chance of causing turmoil during Question Period rather than subduing it), what are the Conservatives aiming for? Drama? Polarization?

@Cliff, ffibmanol, and Finn Harvor: My knowledge of parliamentary procedure is not good enough to predict or even speculate on what kind of evil this guy could perpetrate. My knowledge of majority government is good enough to know there's fuck-all anybody can do about it.

@JJ: Tubesock's still going on about that?

Oh. Right. He's a fetus fetishist. They NEVER stop whinging.

It seems to me there is a Gay Mafia at the head of the Conservative party NTTIAWWT. John Baird, Jason Kenny, Christopher Alexander, Helen G's replacement, Shelly Glover, Barry Trotz, Guy Girodino all set off my Gaydar.

Niles said...

@Steve. Such people are not Gay. At best, if there's anything factual to your claim, they're people who have physical attractions towards their own sex.

If there's one thing I've heard over and over and over again from the conservative types attempting to reconcile hating teh Gay and yet allowing for their leading figures to be homosexual, it's the *lifestyle* of open, unashamed acceptance of one's 'aberrant' needs and demanding legal and social equality for it that's the Teh Gay.

See: Conservative outrage over Scott Brison having the nerve to send his constituents a Xmas card where he and his partner are standing out in the open, acting like they're normal or something.

Those who stay in the closet and slink about, mouthing proper respect for the publicity and legal rights only straights can claim, they're ok, so long as they never become an opponent of the authoritarian game plans. Then all concern for the sanctity of their private lives is off the table.

Awww! How adorable! A junior Preston Manning!

That hair doesn't look like it moves neither. Kinda pudgy. Add about 20 years, a blue sweater vest, and he kinda looks like Stevie Spiteful. What say ya?

I wonder if Dizzy Miss Lizzy voted for him? (sorry, couldn't resist--I never forgot her pro-life revelations)

Niles, I remembered when many Cons had chastised Brison for crossing the floor. Many of them accused Brison of not being true to his values. But if you read Lawrence Martin's Harperland, in an interview with Martin, Brison says that just before the merger of the Prog Cons and CRAP, Harper had an interview with him, basically telling him that his socon base would not exactly like the idea of an openly gay politician like him. With that, he became a Liberal. In essence, he was being true to himself, instead of cowtowing to the new party.
