Will mounting pressure from the campaign bring about a change in government policies that currently maintain apartheid zones for Palestinians, occupy their lands with new settlements and destroy Berber villages? It remains to be seen.
Here Vanessa Paradis and Jeanne Moreau sing 'Le Tourbillon de la vie'.

Just saw Paradis in a light but affecting comedy, 'L'arnacoeur'. It reminded me of what talent she possesses. And what power she and her husband wield. This would be a strong move for the pair as it would once again put celebrity in the spotlight for good.
Depp, who once got himself in hot water with the US for calling it a 'dumb puppy', may only be a silent partner in Paradis' actions - if she does indeed cancel the visit - but the two of them together could shed new light on conditions of those suffering in Gaza.
Your optimism is commendable but groundless. Israel isn't going to change its policies on the West Bank because of boycotts. Israel has many reasons for keeping the West Bank but one of them stands above all others - water. Restoring the West Bank to Palestinian rule would endanger Israel control of one of the three key aquifers it absolutely depends on. Netanyahu has openly stated that Israel cannot survive without the West Bank. Israeli scientists and human rights groups are pretty outspoken on the water issue and how it virtually precludes peace with the Palestinians.
get yr facts right. berbers live in algeria not israel
I can't begin to imagine the pressure Paradis and Depp as well will be subjected to in the days ahead. For sure, the CRIF right now has its hands full but given its resources, it can still make life miserable for the Paradis-Depp couple. Certainly their careers as of now is on the line. Faced with dire prospects on that front, who knows how they will react?
My friend lagatta kindly brought my mix-up of bedouins and berbères to my attention; I have been thinking about the latter in light of protests and uprising against tyranny in Tunisia.
And Backseat Blogger - the berbères nomadic tribes are also found in other maghrébian countries, not only in Algeria.
