Torontonamo UPDATED

This afternoon, Toronto Police will release its G20 Ten Most Wanted List.

Gee. Wonder if it will include this famous yet anonymous guy in the expensive jacket.

In related news, there's another website devoted to collecting stories about the G20 police actions. This one has a great name: Torontonamo, a word we bloggers should help spread far and wide.

In more related news, the Facebook group is closing in on 54,000 members.

UPDATE: CBC story and from the comments, Mr. Looks-Like-A-Cop made the list.

Jeez. The guy sure looks like a cop, doesn't he? You think the Mounties could have made a token effort to disguise him - let his hair grow out or shave it off completely, get him some face piercings, maybe a couple of fake tats on his neck.

How difficult can it be to ID this guy? Perhaps an independant citizens' cttee should release their own 10 most wanted.

After all, didn't the forces of authority and their fans scream that protesters should have "policed" their own ranks? Let's start with a photo line-up.

Yes, I can hardly wait until they "catch" this guy.... like that will ever happen.

Well, if he is ever identified, I think we bloggers can take some major credit for smearing his puss all over the toobz.

Well, if the G&M's report is anything to go by, the answer is "yes". (See here, look at the image at the top.) Doubling down or is he really not a cop?

The psychology of releasing a "most wanted" list seems another step in cementing in the public absorption that the persons downtown who weren't cops were criminals -- of varying degrees --.

"Most wanted" has had imagery associated with the phrase since the days of the "Wild West". The FBI "most wanted" list, that has been constantly promoted and referenced in media since the 1930s, goes after extremely dangerous criminals who use weapons (more lethal than vinegar and bubbles), murder, rob and have proven casual disdain for human life.

When 'the public' is advised about the contents of the FBI list they are warned not to associate with these criminals because they will be in threat of their lives from the wanted parties.

Sooooo, what's the first imagery that will come to mind when 'the public' hears about this 'G20 most wanted' list? G20 will be the first sentence fragment discarded, leaving a lazy, loaded phrase associated with 'thugs and hoodlums' and 'burning cop cars' and 'bombed banks' and 'terrorists'.

It's the same purpose as the show trial display of the confiscated 'weapons'. Like accusations on page one above the fold about someone, few read the recalcitrant publisher's retractions on page 16 by the greenscape ad.

(as an aside note, I winced when the LARPer's stuff was dragged out for consumption. I've personally had to put with an unenlightened reaction to the word 'medieval' by excitable types boggle-eyed watching a costume event in a park -- sadly, there really are people who can't get past the "evil" part of medieval. Sadly too, I fully expect that reaction from average viewers of the LARP cos-play toys. Defiantly, I say, dammmnn..that was one fine scale armour hauberk)

Despite lack of evidence and presumption of innocence, these listed folks are not reported as 'persons of interest wanted for questioning in relation to events at the G20', they're not even reported as they would be on Crimestoppers adverts. These are 'most wanted'. Judged, condemned and hunted, because they were apparently too criminal and cunning to be rounded up at the time of their whatever-they-were-doing, and hence uhm...are of national security interest for...Toronto property vandalism. Maybe.

In contrast to this show of criminal genius, all those hapless others who *were* rounded up, then released after no charges or pathetic charges are vindi...well actually, they've been judged, condemned and pissed on by the "yeahyeah, Spike, hit'm again" law'n'ornament contingent in a multitude of comment sections.

Good point, Niles.

The guy shown in the pic at the top of the page is probably a mercenary employed by one of the private security organizations hired by the RCMP who ran the ISU. This way the Mounties can have "plausible deniability".

Covering their asses. I do hope they don't roll that young officer's career under a bus. He was just following orders, after all...

Seriously though, I'll believe that he's not a cop when a name is put to the face. I'm certainly not going to take Bill Blair's word on anything, given his track record for honestly and forthrightness.

Still, somebody's got to be able to identify him. Did they zoom him in from Arcturus? Give him plastic surgery?

I suggest bloggers start a most wanted list targeting the criminal cops. That is, if it hasn't already happened.

And whew, am I happy my picture didn't make the cut. I probably came in at number eleven... :)

Christian: Identifying cops, yes. Here's one site. There are probably others.

That's Ricky Schroder from Silver Spoons! I remember him from the 1980's.

Well perhaps buddy isn't from Arcturus, but he's certainly a well-groomed resident of planet Arc'teryx.

Thanks fern! Great link... I was making more of a tongue in cheek comment, but this is great.

I have been so busy with work that I just haven't had the time to research the story behind the headlines. I still check in on this blog when I get the chance though... :)

Keep up the great work, DJ!
