Palin in Lotusland

Barbara Yaffe wonders if there's an appetite in Canada for $arah's politics.

But first this stunning note:
An Angus Reid poll reported Thursday that fully one half of Republicans regard her as "intelligent, down to earth, strong and honest."

Fully. One. Half.

Oh. Wait. Half of ReThuglicans. Never mind.

We continue.
The Vancouver event, organized by the Mon Bot book club, will pay Palin $75,000. Tickets to the Oct. 13 Vancouver Club session, by invitation only, are $500.

Yaffe reminds us that 900 turned up in Hamilton, Ontario, paying $200 to listen/watch as the nitwit served up the word salad.
It's hard to know whether that bit of Canadian attention was borne of admiration for her political philosophy or simply curiosity.

Because the smart money says Palin's political style would flop here.

"My instinctive reaction is to hope Palin is unique to Alaska and the U.S.," says University of Victoria political science professor emeritus Norman Ruff.

Whew, that's a relief.

But just a minnit. Looky here at what my Facebook friend Connie has to say:
I would fly to Vancouver to see her if I could afford it. [Very Happy smiley]

They walk among us. *shiver*

Interesting name the sponsoring group has: mon BOT. Do they really mean bot as in robot?

Hmm. Thinking the 'mon' is French for 'my', I just looked up 'bot' in my (crappy) French-English dictionary. 'Bot' means 'club-foot'. Peculiar.

Palin's style wouldn't fly here on a national basis, although I could see someone like her running as a provincial MLA in Alberta.

That said, she is a genuine enigma. Her metamorphosis from Alaska politician to de facto leader of a nationwide movement that's forced a major US political party to become so much more extreme is fascinating to watch.

JJ, yes, absolutely fascinating. For a long time there, I kept waiting for the Kool-Aid to wear off. Any minute now, I kept thinking, people will realize what a grifting nitwit she is.

But it's not happening.

Americans are truly the strangest people on earth.

What annoys me no end is the media dudes here in the Great White that are perplexed that "feminists" aren't 100% behind Sarah the Unready/Unsteady.

They can't see beyond her boot-strapping/licking "maverick-ness" to notice that she is as dumb as a bag of hammers.

My mom thinks Palin is the best thing since sliced bread and that Obama is evil incarnate. We have had to agree to disagree to maintain our relationship. It's making me sick, really. But that's what happens when one has a steady diet of Fox News (sic), which she has had.
